Byfuglien is a pretty good transitional defnseman, despite the bulk.
- Jsaquella

I really would have little issue with the addition, assuming its not for a huge over payment.

Simmonds and two 2nd rounders seems like a fair deal to me. Good fit for the Jets as well.

Im at the point where I think we should suck it up and pay through our teeth in the offseason. Find the cheapest and right deal and pull the trigger. We need a puck moving defenseman and im okay with deal most forwards to get one. This organization never has a problem finding more.
- FrmRusiaWifGlov

I'm not against it. The forwards need to be remixed as well. We don't have the right mix of players.

The problem with our managements mentality to is try and get the best player available in the draft and free agency regardless if they fit the mix or not.

Having the best players on your team doesn't hurt, but it's not something that works in hockey.

They need to free up some contract slots and get ready to claim some guys off of waivers later in the year. There is always 1-2 players who hit the waiver wire during the course of the year that are worth grabbing.

yeah. to get anyone worthwhile, youre going to create a pretty big hole somewhere else in your lineup for sure. more and more, it seems internal development is the only way to really go anymore
- stayinthefnnet

The thing is, if they trade Simmonds & L. Schenn for Edler-for poops & Giggles, not seriously-Edler replaces Schenn & they can sign a Matt Moulson to replace Simmonds in FA

What do you think the chances are Pitkanen hits free agency and doesnt resign with the Canes? Even with his injuries he is someone I would go after.

There was some rumors that his career could be over or that he'd be hampered by the injury if he could return.

Huge difference on the powerplay. An actual threat from the blueline opens up a lot of space up front.

I'm concerned we are getting too carried away with acquiring a 'puck-moving' dman. I think I would much rather a linchpin #1-2 guy that can make smart passes but most importantly can keep the puck in the offensive zone on PP's. Much like Pronger was able to do. We can't keep going 0-5 on special teams and expect to win. I guess what I'm saying is I'd rather spend assets on a Phaneuf or Seabrook type player over an Enstrom or Letang type.

i feel as though guys that are that true well rounded linchpin are even harder to find than guys that are good offensively.

Most of the names that are being kicked around are top pair guys-Byfuglien, Enstrom, Yandle, all of them are top pair guys, who play a load of minutes for their teams, and would for the Flyers, too.

so if the eagles lose tonight they're still in it? and if they win they don't clinch?

Yep. If they lose tonight, they have same record as Dallas. If they win, Dallas can still tie them with a win in week 17, and in that case, Dallas wins tie breaker.

So tonight's game means nothing, really.
