I hated to hear the news. Kid was having a great season. He certainly is fun to watch. There is a member of that SJ team if he was injured, I wouldn't give a damn about. It's not Hertl. - Oneonta Penguin

Question for you guys. On the main page there was a disussion about Briere being hosed for minutes. Clearly he's not working out right now in Montreal.
Would any of you take a shot on him if he were available at the deadline? I think his playoff track record is terrific. I question health. Also the cost. Just wondering. |

@CraigCustance: It's not easy for a defenseman to win the Calder Trophy as the NHL's rookie of the year. Just ask the Minnesota Wild's Jonas Brodin, who wasn't even a finalist last season. However, what Olli Maatta and the Pittsburgh Penguins are doing right now, a six-game winning streak with a defensive group decimated by injury, is the kind of thing that sticks in the memories of voters who turn in Calder ballots after the season. Maatta has been unbelievable and the Penguins won again Thursday night, 5-2 over Brodin and the Wild. Maatta had a goal and an assist, and was a plus-3. He skated 21:46 and continues to establish himself as one of the game's best young defensemen. The Calder race is shaping up to be even tougher than last season. Nathan MacKinnon is cutting into Tomas Hertl's early rookie scoring lead, Valeri Nichushkin of the Dallas Stars is charging back into the picture, and even the Tampa Bay Lightning's Tyler Johnson deserves mention for his efforts while Steven Stamkos is out. But considering Maatta's age and position, it's hard to top the effort he is turning in right now. - canadianpenfan
Myers beat out Duchene even though Dutchy won the scaring race and helped put his team into the playoffs that year. Myers won bc he logged tough minutes and put up points for a bad Sabres team. You never know |

It's not Torres, Lapierre, ...
It's one of the named guys - not Marleau either. Just think this player is an absolute arrogant douche.

Penguins minus Fleury/Crosby/Malkin >>> Flames. |

No, his comments weren't only about Fleury and rebounds. Sharks got handed that night, but it was all the Sharks and not what Pittsburgh did. The kid lacts like an arrogant douche. Sorry. I wouldn't shed a tear if he got face planted. |

Wasn't my doing. I didn't want to give up a first for a relatively useless player who showed no emotion on the ice. We didn't need to do that. It was on Shero.
Part of the reason we got lucky is because you had a fool for a GM. I think you would rather have Maatta than Jankowitzski. |

Not a day goes by that we don't contemplate what could have been had we kept Ben Hanowski and Kenny Agostino. Have those guys cracked your stacked line up yet?
Gems. Well worth your franchise player. |

I don't care about giving up those two. It was the first round pick I didn't like. That could have been Ryan Hartman. Hartman was more needed than Iggy - really.

Either way you slice it it was under payment for Iginla. Whether we needed him or not only getting a late first and those 2 scrubs was a fail. |

That's pretty damn good. I still say the OV vs. Phoenix goal was better though. |

Hindsight is 20/20. I agree that we didn't necessarily need him/his position but if you told me we would get him at the beginning of the year I would have been pumped. |

I think that was one of the best goals i've ever seen.
I like Malkin's against TB too. |

I think trading for Iginla last year was perfect no matter how it ended up. Everyone knew the cap was going to be different this year. You have a chance to acquire a player like that for those types of assets you do 100 out of 100 times. |
