7/year for Phaneuf is a fair deal for him and the Leafs. The term is too long but as we all know teams will be lining up in the summer to sign him and he would probably get a bit more $ too. As long as the NTC isn't very restrictive the deal is good and if the team goes south during those 7 years they can find another taker.

Honestly Bruce, Rielly was the standout, how any one could not see that has the blinders on for that game.

I think Rielly is going to be a stud in this league. He has all the tools and above average smarts which will help him attain an elite level and make the game a little easier for he and his team mates. Gardiner on the other hand has the talent, but his brain will hold him back a bit.
I honestly don't doubt Burke had Rielly at or close to #1 in that draft. I think he will be the standout of that draft in years to come. JMO.

There's nothing out there available or in our system that can replace those minutes right now. Can you see Gardiner lining up against the best in the league night in and night out for 25+ minutes a game? Yes, I know, Gardiner's played some big minutes lately, but he's not that kind of a player.
