yeah i understand being shocked theyd match, but the sense of HOW DARE THEY indignation was ridiculous. even if it wasnt financially sound for them to do so, im glad they did. i liked seeing a little guy be able to retain its star. and the fact that they didnt just say, well okay homer here you go. how gracious of you to give us read, coburn and a second. if anything, we should have included a few picks of our own for you doing us the favor and doing all of the negotiation legwork with our franchise player! like no.

that being said, i am glad at least homers interference at least got the ball rolling and forced nashville to nut up and lock the guy up.

I think what Nashville has to pay Weber is a very large percentage of what the franchise is worth, in total.

I think that's where the shock comes from.

yeah. even now, the market is still awful. the assets being mentioned for a guy like del zotto, just because he has some puck moving ability, blow my mind. and yeah carle wasnt bad. i initially shake my head at his contract he got, but thats just the market for those kinds of players now.

its the only comfort im getting from watching the WBS Crosbys play right now. the pens have cardboard cutouts for forward prospects, but hopefully one or two of these D prospects can be moved to acquire a forward or two. maatta and despres are the real deal.

- stayinthefnnet

They sure are. And with the way Bortuzzo's playing, Engelland should be waived immediately.

i dont remember anyone being indignant. More shocked and upset. Everyone thought it was a done deal. And believe it or not, Homer "interfering" was a really smart move, or else Weber would likely be a Ranger right now with Nash.
- youarewrong

interfering is probably a strong word on my part. like i said, it really doesnt have anything to do with the flyers as much as it does the whole RFA thing. which like i said, makes no sense at all that it bothers me but it does. its within the rules, and a good GM uses all of the tools available to him to make his team better. i dont resent homer for implementing the practice, as much as i do the practice itself.

Ah yes, Maattaa, aka the next Nick Lidstrom.

ive been waiting for him to slow down, but it simply hasnt really happened. if he keeps up close to this pace, its not that awful. and its only 3 years i believe, so its not as if they are screwed long term should it not work out

Laughton for Maata. Call Shero. I'll call Homer. Get it done.

Guy's 29, never had more than 24 goals in his career, and has a huge season in a contract year. I think it ($5.8M) is a bit high, but not ridiculous.

couldnt agree more. engo was a nice little story that a career ahler got a nice cup of coffee and a contract, but still. bortuzzo doesnt have a super high ceiling, but he can fulfill that role to a t and is just flat out much better. knowing the pens, borts and despres bags are already packed for a return to the AHL

i like laughton a lot, but maatta is quickly becoming an untouchable for me. him and despres can be top 4 guys for the next decade. (and no i dont think thats a gross hyperbole either). im also very excited to see harrington and pouliot as well before long.

i know i always preach you have to give to get, but moving maatta would be too rich for my blood right now

Our D is very old (Kimmo, Streit, Gill) and some are most probably not coming back (Mez, Gervais). I would resign Kimmo at 3.5M-4M if he wants to play another year. 6M is a bit much.

Our talented D prospects (Morin, Haag, Ghost) are still years away from being NHL regulars and they face a big and long learning curve at this level.

I wish we could acquire someone like Shattenkirk or Voynov for picks, prospects. Though I don't think a trade like that is possible without losing Couturier ++

I like that its only for 3 years.
Signing guys to long term deals until they are 38 or older is dumb.
I like how StLouis does their contracts.

He makes more money that Scott Hartnell by about $1mil per year.

Would you trade Scott Hartnell for Alex Steen?

Will they really send back Despres?
He has been impressive.

Would you want to see Jagr back for a cup run as a rental?

Not at all.

Alex Steen has never scored more than 24 goals and that was 4 seasons ago.

Hartnell has 2 30-goal seasons and been a pretty consistent 20 goal scorer in his stint with the Flyers.

they have always been so quick to send despres back down for some reason. i understand its a numbers game, but man that kid has it. he is huge and mobile. his time working on his shut down game in the AHL this season has helped a lot too. i do whatever you have to do to keep him in the lineup at the pro level. he is ready. although at this rate, the veteran top 4 will never see the ice at the same time anyway.

and jagr, now that is a can of worms. it be cool to see him with the pens again. he was probably the main reason i got into them as a kid. he made some otherwise eh seasons worth following. but still, im really leery about moving assets for rentals, legend or not. besides i dont know how much he would actually help with what typically plagues the pens in the spring

if that trade ever happened for you guys, i may literally choke on my own tongue. this isnt just flyers bashing, but hartnells trade value is pretty low, and im sure whatever no movement clause he has will complicate things even more. no steen likely cant keep this up, but still.

The only thing St. Louis did right in this contract is the term.

Hartnell's been far more productive over his career than Alex Steen.

Flyers prospect Scott Laughton was named captain of Canada's World Junior team. He has got to be a little studdy to get the honor?
