Frankly I agree. When Vanek decides where to go he's going to base his opinion of the Isles on just a few months worth of experience. I can assure you that this will stick in his mind, though his deceision may have been made long before. - keaner17
If I were Vanek I wouldn't even dream of re-signing with the Isles. The team is abysmal. The ownership sucks. The coaches suck. The GM sucks. The only good thing going for the Isles is Brooklyn and JT and this miserably embarrassing losing streak is only proving that JT by himself isn't enough to carry this franchise out from under the Big Top to a place of respectability and competitiveness. Snow should move Vanek for a 1st, or more if possible, ASAP. |

I get it. I would too. But since I don't have a son who likes Bailey because Bailey did a real solid by him, I can wish for his trade away from the isles so I don't have to be frustrated every game watching a guy with great skill waste away and contribute nothing. - Jethro09
I'm with ya. I want to see him do good but I wouldn't lose a second sleep if he got traded |

If the GM were doing a sell job on him, that sell would include telling him that he can play with one of the best players in the world for next several years, and that the Islanders have several pieces that will allow them to be a contender in the long term.
I realize it's hard looking at the Islanders objectively as a fan of the team right now, but at the same time, they have some really good pieces in that organization. With JT, Strome, Reinhart, Pulock, et. in the system, and if you are luck enough to draft somebody like Ekblad this year, it really doesn't seem like a hard sell to make that the team could be real good.
To be honest, a team with the guys above would scare the beejesus out of me once they begin to develop. |

Does anyone think Garth Snow still carries a copy of the CBA around with him like he did when he first became GM? Does he still carry that old CBA copy around and not the new one?

Laviolette is available. He's great for turning a team around for two years before the players start to tune him out. Hire him back for two years and then hire another coach to get you over the top once they tune Laviolette out. Your team has some great players and I'm sure Taveres would excel in his system. - Barbecued Hockey
I'm with you. My opinion on why a change hasn't been made is because Wang doesn't like to spend $ on people not working. So if the isles fire capuano who just signed an extension in the offseason and his staff, you have possible three people getting paid and 4 if you count Bertini out of a job. Wang won't spend the $2 mill on Laviollete which his contract with Philly requires. So if anything at all happens, Capuano will be reassigned and Weight will take over and myself and the fans and the players can all go (frank) themselves |

Eh...I don't totally disagree with you though if I know about the players in this system and Barclay's around the corner, I'd give it consideration. I think ultimately Wang is willing to pony-up for Vanek which means he can bring in a damn fine contract. He can play with one of the top 5 players in the league as well as kids like Strome, Reinhart, Pulock Okposo etc. I think he'd likely choose Minnesota but that's provided Minnesota even wants to pay him that type of cash when they're already paying Parise and Suter huge money.
I figure that Snow should gauge what Vanek plans to do asap, tell him the overall plan...ask him to stop laughing, then trade him. |
