I don't want a pick back for Vanek if we move him, I want a top four defenseman, even if it's one without any offensive ability. - Isles_since_6
wont happen...no reason to believe a team (in the playoff hunt, otherwise why are they trading for vanek) would trade for vanek and give up top 4 dman |

It would be a bizarre trade but a guy could hope. |

it's possible a team like st louis may look at moving depth on defense for a player like Vanek when they look like a serious cup contender this year.
For us to get picks back doesn't do it at this stage of the game. We have so many prospects on defense that adding more picks to get more prospects who will take another 2-3 years. We need some help now.
whether it's entirely realistic or not, I cannot claim to know as I don't know who would be looking at Vanek and who they'd be willing to part with. - Isles_since_6
if you get a 1st rounder, you can them make that pick available to ALL 29 teams for a dman...you dont HAVE TO draft someone... |

He means MM and JT are better together thank Vanek and JT, however Vanek is the better player. Hes talking about the chemistry of it. I would prefer to have them both on the team next year and its very possible if they are willing to spend some money. - mighty13duck
the first sentence i understood...its this, that i dont get:
and ill go a step further and say that
TV > MM
i think hes saying if he were drafting a team, hed take moulson before vanek (but had the signs mixed up) |

So we'll just include you in the "hoping" then.
Edit; I still think there's a very small chance the guy resigns. I have no idea why I think there is even the slightest chance but I do? |

Thats all well and good but any team that's looking to acquire Vanek would be in the playoff hunt and those teams aren't in the business of giving up top 4 defense men. |

would vanek score more on a different line? We have a stone cold set of forwards after the top line*edit*, do we want to risk breaking the one thing we have working right now by breaking up the top line? Is demoting vanek to play with Nielson and Bailey going to make him think it's worth resigning?
Frankly, do we even have a hope in hell of making the playoffs? I don't think so. I'd like to see us fire the coach and look to add a defenseman. Let's at least get a system in place and spend the rest of the year learning to play it, rather than spinning our wheels and making a change in the summer. - Isles_since_6
dude, did I say a holy hell thing about him resigning...is it really demoting him....are we winning games right now. juggling lines at times can increase offense...I see JT and KO being the stars of that line right now....Neilson and Bailey are toast right now...maybe adding vanek changes that...so please understand...fire the coach (AGREE) look to add a defenseman (AGREE) ...I'm only talking about our forwards, not blaming them for everythnig at all....just suggesting ways to mix it up and light a fire under them....OK? |

perhaps I didn't phrase it properly - a 5th defenseman on the blues is a top 4 for us. Assuming Bouwmeester, Shattenkirk and Pietrangelo are their top 3, if we could get back someone like Barret Jackman or Roman Polak and maybe a 3rd, I'd be happy with that.

So in essence you're trading Moulson a 1st and a 2nd for Barret Jackman?
Mike Milbury would be proud. |

Just because Snow over paid doesn't mean someone else has too. . We will not get a return equal to what we paid. I know I'm stating the obvious right now |

I'd do it if he doesn't want to resign. Maybe they would do Vanek and AMAC for Gardiner and Franson?
This season would be worth sacrificing to watch AMAC gone and for that very unrealistic trade to happen
Leafs are starting to get a bit desperate lately. They may make a decent trading partner? |

Do you think there may be a chance it has to do with the team as a whole playing like absolute dog shat? Have a feeling the defense being nonexistent might have something to do with there not being any real "magic" yet with that line. It's a tough thought having your first line forwards being pinned in their own zone and expecting them to score. I know they're part of that equation but not getting the puck out of the zone and over the blue line can be attributed to terrible defense which we all know we have and their biggest issue is getting the puck up the boards because their coach doesn't want them too for some unknown reason? First line is going to be a little less effective in their own zone. Also, JT is not the same lately for obvious reasons. Wish the guy would be a little more focused than he is lately. Don't get me wrong he's playing great but I just think this team playing like this is killing him and at times he loses his focus. - Cptmjl
Agree...so if they are playing like shat, we have terrible defense only thing left to do it is juggle lines....again that's my entire point..they will have the same crap defense playing and those issues will occur but when your so close each game a spark with new lines may game you a game or two....I don't know thought it was a decent thought... |

It absolutely is. I've been crying for almost months now for Capuano to put Nielsen, grabner, Bailey or Okposo together and he finally did. That line was one of our best lines that game except for Nielsen making that pass in our own zone - Cptmjl

Truthfully, I see absolutely no reason to think Vanek re-signs after this train wreck of a season. If thinks keep going like they are, he will bolt for the door the second it opens. And I wouldn't blame him.
And no way Moulson comes back to this circus as a free agent. That's like a prisoner who escapes jail sneaking back into prison. Makes no sense. The entire organization completely s**t away any smidge of respect it may have gained off last season with this putrid collection of players and effort it has put forth this season and management's lack of any effort to fix things or at least look as if it notices there is a problem to address. |

Could not agree more Jethro. They trade for Vanek and players, owner, GM, and coach stop working and let everything fall apart. Why would Vanek re-sign or Moulson come back? Charles has created a culture of not caring about losing and we are suprised when guys like Bailey or PMB and Regin do not give it their all? |

Im not surprised about bouchard and regin. Had no hopes for them but Bailey's play has been a little shocking to me. Probably shouldn't be but it is |
