This is usually the same way we disagree with draft picks/prospects too.. I was in love with Skinner b/c the guy was scoring 50+ in juniors. He can't skate well and is not a guy who creates a lot on the ice... but I'll take him on my team any friggin day. |

oooooh the ole respected analyst like who.. mike Milbury? Jeremy Roenick? .. maybe Kevin Weekes who has uttered the lovely analysis in the past that our letting Radek Martinek go and JT not having a legit wing man is why the Islanders are struggling.
Bottom line... the argument comes from one point. Some of us consider the ability to Score an ELITE skill in this league. It's a very tough league. It has very good goalies (not us) and very good defensemen (not us again)... and if a player can score 30+ goals a year it is very valueable skill. You can call them "garbage goals"
or "tip ins" or "deflections".. I don't give a poop. It's a very tough league to score goals and Moulson is a goal scorer!! a Sniper!! whatever you want to call it he finds a way to get in front of the net and despite getting cross checked in the back, and slashed in the back of the knees.. (hi Vanek).. stays there and scores the friggin goals. - niteislander
That in no way addresses what I said
Find one...that was open to any 'respected' analyst who would say Moulson is as good of a player as Vanek.
As for scoring 30+...Moulson was NOT on pace for 30 last year...since being traded to Buffalo he's on pace for 23...in other words, JT can turn a lot of 20-24 goal guys into 30 goals guys.. |

the point is the Moulson trade did not do a thing to improve the team and we gave a first and second round pick away with it. - niteislander
You won't get an argument about that from me, while I think Vanek is an improvement, we should have used the assets to fix up our defense and goaltending. I don't love the trade. If you look at it in a vacuum without looking at anything else on the team, it makes sense. If you're making trades without considering anything else on the team, it's fvcking stupid.

It was a downgrade or at least a lateral move.. Vanek did not make the first line any better just more "star studded" Vanek without question make the PP worse.

They're better at 5x5 play. As for the power play...no way to judge that when we have Amac qbing the power play. Big difference between Vis shooting from the point and Amac missing the net by a country mile. So without question? I beg to differ. |

And that's what I was saying..you have to look at it that way because this wasn't about just making the 2013 team better. It was an attempt to make 2013 and BEYOND better. |

WHats the best option this year, draft Ekblad or Reinhart, or trade the 1st overall for a proven player |

If we were able to get the 1st or 2nd overall pick, I'd be looking to move it for an established defender so we weren't giving up another top 5 pick to Buffalo next year. Depends what's available, but I'd definitely be looking to improve NOW rather than add another prospect that's going to take a year or two minimum to contribute

Reinhart, so atleast we will have Strome centering the first line & Reinhart centering the second line after we trade Tavares & a 1st rounder for some #1 or #2 defensemen on the last year of his contract.

if we're losing in overtime playing as well as we can, then when we stop trying we'll lose a ton more in regulation. We'll have a top two pick this year. Depressing as hell and ultimately a massive failure of the entire organization.

you could very well be right, and Vanek may very well walk at the end of the year, or be traded at the deadline. The draft picks and us having a terrible year make this trade look a lot worse than it should have been.
Ultimately, the problems this team is having relate to defense, goaltending and secondary scoring, none of which is a result of the trade.
If anything, we should be having a 13 page conversation about how Snow left us so thin at defense and goaltending that we can't compete, and how poorly we've been coached that we're blowing as many third period leads as we have wins. - Isles_since_6
I agree. He deserves to be fired for this offseason alone. It's still sorta shocking to me they're this bad. I wasn't super confident coming into this season but didnt expect a complete free fall. |

Got this from one of his scouting reports
"If there are drawbacks to Skinner’s game, they could be in his relative lack of size (5-foot-10, 187 pounds) and skating ability – the latter of which comes as something of a surprise given his success as a nationally-known figure skater in his youth." |

I think it's also testament though to how quickly the ship can be righted. If the loss of 2 dmen and sub par goaltending can send a team from 'bright up and comer' to lottery contender, it should only take a couple of additions to get us back. Of course then there's that whole coach thing |

I have a feeling we are going to steal that pick from Buff this year. This team is due for another 12 game losing streak. |

I don't expect wang to sell off the team, but with this kind of performance this season it's amazing to me that we have the same coach AND the same GM that didn't do anything to improve the team.
The fact that Snow continually leaves the team in freefall without doing anything until far too late (which has happened before multiple times) is a pattern that does not lead to success. There is a time for patience and there is a time that it should sink in that things as they are will not turn around. We passed that point about 3 weeks ago yet nothing has been done.
I don't want a Milbury, but we've inherited his opposite. |

Yea it can be but we haven't seen the isles step up and improve management or coaching. Also alarming is the massive underachiement by about half the forwards |
