I think Vanek will get about $3 mill more than Moulson come next year. Just an opinion but we will see.
- Isles316

Thats a valid guess... Vanek's contract has to make Clarkson's look like spare change.

Evgeni Malkin might even be prettier than Moulson.
- Charlie21

Yes, but Moulson has Ricci beat. (Throw back to the underground blog!)

clearly he thinks Vanek is a downgrade from Moulson. A guy so valuable he was playing on the third line in the playoffs.
- Isles_since_6

A guy who scored 3 goals in 6 playoff games... and was still somehow demoted to the 3rd line b/c the coach is a moron.

I dunno...depends on what motivates him to sign. He turned down a record contract to leave Buffalo so something tells me money isn't his primary concern. He may be forced to take a below market offer if he really wants to go to Minnesota. I think the Isles will offer him in the neighborhood of $7 million per season. Of course with the cap going up, who the hell knows.

I don't recall asking for your thoughts, but here we are. Why don't you pick another topic? As for telling me to STFU, should I cower in fear of your lack of knowledge?

you mean because you hijacked the comments to go over the same sh!t repeatedly that's been talked to death for weeks?

You're like the peta people standing outside a chemical plant. It doesn't matter what the conversation is, it comes back to your protest and placard waving.

- Isles_since_6

The conversation has been going on for about 13 pages.. fyi. It started with Dan talking about the idiots chanting "we want Moulson".. which of course turned into a discussion about the trade.. some still like it. Others .. like me.. still do not like it.

I do ... one that line and on the PP with JT.. Moulson was and is a better fit. I said it when they made the trade and after 19 games all the stats point to me and XX and everyone on the other side of this convo being correct. When are you going to see it and say you just might have been incorrect?

which shows again, rather than us discussing the real problems with this team, we're talking about some people putting lipstick on a pig. The Moulson trade is not what's killing this team.

I do believe Vanek is the better player but hes also not so much better that we needed to ad a first and a second, Snow lost the trade big time, but can redeem himself if he resigns Vanek and Moulson

Lack of D & a real coach are killing this team

you could very well be right, and Vanek may very well walk at the end of the year, or be traded at the deadline. The draft picks and us having a terrible year make this trade look a lot worse than it should have been.

Ultimately, the problems this team is having relate to defense, goaltending and secondary scoring, none of which is a result of the trade.

If anything, we should be having a 13 page conversation about how Snow left us so thin at defense and goaltending that we can't compete, and how poorly we've been coached that we're blowing as many third period leads as we have wins.

exactly. If we want to spend 13 pages ripping something, let's focus on that, snow and capuano.

oooooh the ole respected analyst like who.. mike Milbury? Jeremy Roenick? .. maybe Kevin Weekes who has uttered the lovely analysis in the past that our letting Radek Martinek go and JT not having a legit wing man is why the Islanders are struggling.

Bottom line... the argument comes from one point. Some of us consider the ability to Score an ELITE skill in this league. It's a very tough league. It has very good goalies (not us) and very good defensemen (not us again)... and if a player can score 30+ goals a year it is very valueable skill. You can call them "garbage goals"
or "tip ins" or "deflections".. I don't give a poop. It's a very tough league to score goals and Moulson is a goal scorer!! a Sniper!! whatever you want to call it he finds a way to get in front of the net and despite getting cross checked in the back, and slashed in the back of the knees.. (hi Vanek).. stays there and scores the friggin goals.

I will say that many said if the Isles can resign him it was a win for them, which many agreed with here. At the time of the trade, I think most were a bit more optimistic about that happening than now.

the point is the Moulson trade did not do a thing to improve the team and we gave a first and second round pick away with it.

It was a downgrade or at least a lateral move.. Vanek did not make the first line any better just more "star studded" Vanek without question make the PP worse.
