This may not be related to the topic but I have to get it out of my chest:

Alphaneuf is an awful nickname it sounds ridiculous.

Well, he's been their best player the last 5 games, so... Yeah.
- Cimo

Can we loan them Dion, and Franson and while were at it, can we just flat out give Gunnar back to Sweden?

So, time to play the guy properly???

Is Carlyle stuck in the 80's? "You defenseman should listen to me....back in 1981 when I won the Norris trophy this is how I played."

I completely agree with your argument that Carlyle is basically trying to force a square peg into a round hole by making this team play a game that doesn't suit the personnel.

However, if I were Nonis, before firing the coach, I think I'd make a trade -- even a minor one -- just to shake things up in the room. A shot across the bow, so to speak.

If after that, the Leafs don't respond, then, yes, it's time to fire the coach. Clearly the lack of effort day in and day out speaks volumes about how much (or little) they respect him. There's no excuse for professional hockey players, making millions of dollars a year, to put in such poor efforts.

Losing is one thing -- but playing lazy is an entirely different disease to remedy.

I dont see how RC is the problem just yet..... the supposed LEADER of the team Mrs. Dion Phaneuf....should be leading by example....which he doesn't ....makes bad decisions like last night,....and other nights.....rarely hits anymore at the blue line ... i.e. young phaneuf...

He is not a captain....period

Yeah, he forgets that back in 1981 most of these guys were a few rub-outs away from being ready for selection camp...

Fire Carlyle

Excellent blog Colin. I ve been saying the same thing about the coaching this year in general. It's time for the change before all 18 wheels go off the cliff AGAIN.

What coaching options are out there?

- Yeti1181

Wow... you guys jump to the Fire the coach/GM route pretty quick!
What happened to the guys praising the same coach/GM/players at the start of the season?
Every year is the same with the Leafs... They have one very weak period of their schedule. Looks like it's November/December this year.
They'll bounce back. Probably eeek into the playoffs.

Your assessment on Dion is quite accurate. However, the rest of the team are equally brain dead lately. I can't name one leaf player that is playing great. Not one.

Not even debatable he was the best D on the ice for the Leafs last night.

Phaneuf being the worst.

Sadly I missed the game.

Wait... did I just say sadly??? I mean, thankfully I was busy cooking and enjoying supper with Mrs Lums and Mrs Lums' Mom so that I didn't have to subject myself to that abortion of a game...

To fire a coach that got you to the playoffs for the first time in a decade... yes...
To field a team capable of competing/winning a cup... no!

It seems like the guys have started to tune him out... if that's truly the case, its time for a change of some kind.
