Depends on how much the Dynamic Duo value the realistic possibility of winning 3 more in the following 5 years
It's certainly their right to make as much as they can, and they most likely will, but they have something special going now, what value do they put on that? Time will tell. - Ogilthorpe2

First of all...McKenzie imo is off his rocker if he thinks they will get 15 mil a season...2nd of all, who cares how much they make in salary, what we as fans are concerned about is their cap hit, and their cap hit will mosy likely be a mill give or take a couple hundred thousand less than their salary...And I'm pretty sure both of them are well aware that this team has the potential to be a dynasty,in no way shape or form am I saying they are one now or that they will be considered one,but the potential is there, depending on how much their contracts will be,their health and the health of role players, and the development of prospects...Right now Bowman has imo earned the right for us to have confidence in him...not only him but the entire management team(I don't for one second believe any GM does or makes every decision by himself). And I believe in a blog a while ago, could have been more than a year, JJ mentioned that there is a good group of Hawks players believing what they have is the potential to be a dynasty...I'm nit sayin every player will take a discount like Hammer, but i could see a few of them doing so |

I wonder if Hjalmarsson took less when he re-upped because of what happened with him signing the offer sheet from San Jose? Maybe the guy figured that he got the coin from the Hawks but was a bit overpaid for the 2nd contract (at the time) and was going to make it up in some fashion.
Regardless, the rest of the guys should be kissing #4's ass since he probably left at least $1M a yr on the table had he gone FA (considering what coin was just thrown at Pha-goof). |

If the cap goes up the way some think it will - to what, $100MM in four years? - and if 19/88 sign eight year deals for almost any amount - those will be below-market contracts in four years.
If the CBA allows (and I don't recall any) look for an early-out option feature for each of them after three or four years.
Or they might be smart to take a shorter term deal (at least a little risky), looking to cash in somewhere in, say, 2019.

But Stanley and the f.o. may not want a short-term deal, less certainty for future planning. Knowing an X amt contract today looks like 1/2 X in the future gives the club a lot more latitude in planning.
Just look now how we think Hossa's and Keith's contracts aren't as bad as 1st thought.
Likely Brisson is going to advise them to take a shorter deal to allow them to cash in when those deals would expire -- bet on yourself. But more than likely, Stan and co would rather have these guys locked up at a for-certain rate for the next 6-10 years.

Of course they would - but they may not have the choice - Toews says "four years or I'm walking" - Stan won't say "walk".
There's risk on both sides: on the player's side, there's risk of career ending injury vs. the risk of a diminished value long term deal; on the team's side, risk on a short term deal of a major increase in pay on the next contract vs. the risk that the player breaks down after five years on a long term deal (or that the cap levels off at some point).
I certainly expect that somehow - without too much angst on either side - 19/88 will spend their entire careers in Chicago. |

Under the new CBA the longest deal allowed is 8 Years. Both Kane and Toews will sign for their market value. Likley 8 x 8 OR maybe 8 x 9. Injury in this game is too probable for a player to go short term. Also.......... their are too many fragile franchises to see a Cap of 100M but I do see 85M in 4 years especially with the new TV Deal with Rogers. |

I wonder if some of the Nucks trolls will show up today? It's been pretty dead over in their thread since Esplen was shown the door. |

They are still great games to watch, but always a lot more fun to root for the Hawk players. This year I don't think we have a lot. None on Canada I don't think. TT on Finland, Hartman and maybe Motte on USA. The most could be on Sweden. I haven't seen their roster yet |

In case anyone is interested, Dan McNeil just returned to the score today and made a lengthy statement about how he basically ever since Aug. 2012 had been using again. He apologized and gave the "im thankful" speech. I dont know what to make of it. Its happened so many times that theres no reason to believe it wont happen again.
I personally liked Lawrence Holmes during the day better anyway but whatever, like i said, just in case anyone was interested he is back and he wants to talk about Duncan Keith haha |

For those interested, it sounds like the Hawks are going to go with a black sweater for the Stadium Series thing.
