Was it worse then the "high stick" in Giroux's chest that popped his head back a few games ago?

I never thought I would say this because I always hated Knuble while he was here. But we need a guy that plays like Knuble on this team. Someone always in front of the net, or at least in the low slot. That is deadman's land on this team. Everyone wants to be a perimeter passer and shooter. HELLO that is why you cant score....

this is where hartnell and simmonds need to be camped.

i don't think giroux was acting there. he was reacting to the stick coming up, even though it didn't hit him in the head. his embellished before, but that's not really his way.

i'm amazed at the amount of comments on fraser's tsn article blaming schenn, saying hit isn't suspension worthy, he has to learn to take a hit, and not turn.

give me a mother(frank)ing break.

if you watch the replay closely, he's looking to play the puck and his chest and head still facing the opposite boards. he never really changes his body position at all, other than to pull up slightly, and wilson hammers him. had he just continued skating wilson still likely would have hit him in the same spot and the result could be have been the same or even worse if schenn's body was in skating stride.

are people honestly saying a player should never have the puck there and play it because there's a CHANCE you could get nailed. the puck is there, the player is there, the puck gets played. if wilson isn't hunting from 25+ feet, there's no issue.

here's an idea: wilson could have tried getting the puck instead of launching schenn into the boards.

I did not see the play, so I cant comment on this particular hit, but in general I think a lot of boarding calls can be prevented by the player being boarded. 25 years ago every player knew better then to square his shoulders to the boards. Puck or no puck. Your just asking for trouble. IMO the increase to the safety of the equipment has caused players to care less and less about being safe on the ice.

If I'm a coach at any level, I teach my kids to stand with shoulders at right angles to the boards, never parellel. And if your battling for the puck, put your body up to the board.

Agreed. But when was the last time either has been there on a consistant basis?

And was Ovenchicken "Reacting" to a stick coming up in his face? I've seen 3-4 Giroux dives this year, and its upsetting.

there's a link in the comments section of panotch's blob. watch it.

schenn wasn't standing. he was skating with the puck, looking to make a play. wilson was no where near the scrum for the puck or when it came loose to schenn. he closed in on him in an instant and he really had no chance to do anything other than get hit. if he were facing forward, and wilson hit him, he would have just straight back and smashed the back of his head and his back too. the puck and players end up in dangerous positions many, many times during a game, and always will be. it's the nature of it. players have to learn to stop launching players into the boards from 5 feet away. it is possible. i see it every week in my beer league games where there is no checking.

one has nothing to do with the other. maybe giroux overdid it? my recollection of the replay was that he wasn't acting. i don't like when anybody embellishes, regardless of the team they play for.

watch Voracek's second goal from last night again, Simmond's ass is planted right in front of the net and right in front of Holtby

Simmonds scores more greasy goals then anyone else on the team. remember the one off his teeth last year?

Seriously. I didn't want Knuble when we got him, thinking he was old, slow, one dimensional and not going to bring anything to the table. I was very wrong. He was good on the ice, and great off the ice.

He and Gagne played so well off of each other. When they both played with Forsberg it was magical.

great team guy, durable, versatile, scored dirty goals, scored clutch goals. wished they never let him walk even though he was slowing down. glad he finished as a flyer, even if last year was a poop show.

I just couldnt stand how slow he was and how many penalities he took from hooking and interference in the after lockout era. I will freely admit it was an irrational hate.

It's pathetic, I agree. But if star players get star treatments and it puts the Flyers on the powerplay then I'll live with it. If G stops (I hate people calling him Fraud), it's not like Sid, Ovi, and aren't are going to continue. If it evens out calls, I'll live with it (don't know if I got across my disdain for diving enough in this post).

20 years ago you could simply protect yourself with an elbow or a stick. If Wilson knew he was going to get a mouthful of Sher-Wood, he doesn't take 5 or 6 hard strides and level Schenn.

Knuble, double overtime against the Caps. Game 4, I believe. The guy bled Orange and Black. Anyone remember that goal he scored on a slap shot short handed in the last seconds against Florida? Man, I loved Knubs.

How'd you feel about Bill Barber & Mark Recchi? They were two of the best at embellishment. They make Crosby & Ovechkin look like Michal Handzus out there, just fighting through traffic and popping right back up after a trip or hook.

I just don't like it, even when the Flyers do it.

It's too much like soccer.

I mean, it sounds like you dislike it, but rationalize it away as since the other stars are doing it, its fine if are Stars do it. Its the type of thinking that makes sure nothing ever gets changed. The league really needs to put an end to this because it does more harm then even the head shots.
