How'd you feel about Bill Barber & Mark Recchi? They were two of the best at embellishment. They make Crosby & Ovechkin look like Michal Handzus out there, just fighting through traffic and popping right back up after a trip or hook.
- Jsaquella

I could be wrong.. memory is fiction, but my memory is that it was a Barber dive that led to a penalty to Terry O'Reilly that led to a slapshot by Moose that led to a deflection by MacLeish that led to the hoisting of a Cup.

And somewhere in there was some nifty goaltending by B. Parent.

I'm glad you said this. As much shyt as I give Crosby for whining and diving, I am really getting irritated with Giroux. He is starting to dive more then Michael Phelps (not an olympic diver, but you get the reference). I just dont like divers.

Agreed. I can understand it, but I don't have to like it.

So steen locked up at 5.8 per for 3 years? I know he's having a great year but....Hello 71 million dollar cap!
- Just5

He was a free agent. Somebody was going to pay him that price. Especially with the cap going up. I wouldnt call it a steal by St. Louis but its market price for how he is playing.

I mean, it sounds like you dislike it, but rationalize it away as since the other stars are doing it, its fine if are Stars do it. Its the type of thinking that makes sure nothing ever gets changed. The league really needs to put an end to this because it does more harm then even the head shots.
- youarewrong

Until the NHL is prepared to change it, then why should the Flyers not use an advantage that teams they are playing against are using? I see your argument, it's just too righteous for me. It's about winning and if that gives them a key powerplay then take it until the NHL stops it.

Got it. Your a "win at all costs" kind of guy. I'm more of a "win with integrity" kind of guy. I think being a Cahmpion is more then just winning a trophy. Its about an attitude, and its about being the best. If you need to take a dive, then your not the best.

How about if you have to hook someone from behind? Interfere with them? What if they're faster than you and you have to hit them along the boards to get the puck or they'll go by you? What if you have to turn into a face off to win it because you can't beat the guy straight up on talent alone?

When you lift the cup should you let all that shame overwhelm you, put it down and skate away?

Leaving the diving/embellishing aside, a bad trend I see with G is he actually stops playing for a moment to look around for an arm up when he thinks an infraction has been committed and a call should be made. And while he's doing that, the play is moving on without him.

That's a real bad habit, one I hope he snaps out of soon.

That's more an issue than an occasional embellishment. I'm fine with a little bit of acting. Stuff like Rinaldo whipping his head back when a stick comes within 8 feet of his head is a disgrace.

Generally, the team that wins the championship is a win at all costs group, because that's what it takes to be a champion. Being a champion IS winning the damned trophy, because that's what you're playing for.

Yeah, that was pretty bad. And the fact of the matter is, embellishing probably came about for a lot of players (I'm extending the benefit of the doubt here) because calls definitely get missed because refs are only human and trying to officiate a very fast game surrounded by large men carrying sticks.

But to stop playing while looking for a call, that's no good. Keep playing...talk/complain between whistles.

watch Voracek's second goal from last night again, Simmond's ass is planted right in front of the net and right in front of Holtby

Simmonds scores more greasy goals then anyone else on the team. remember the one off his teeth last year?

- Marc D

Agree. Simmonds is always in front of the net or fighting on boards when they are in the offensive zone.

I like Tom Wilson, and don't like Schenn, but that hit was garbage... Wilson came from the next county, and drilling someone that far from the boards is a recipe for disaster.

Schenn turned, but that's beside the point. He's getting launched into the boards either way... And it's hard to fault a guy for turning or ducking when you see a freight train coming. I saw some idiots on twitter last night saying that Schenn should learn how to take a hit. You stand there and have a 200 lb guy skating 30 mph coming right at you and just stand there and "take it".

Wilson should get 5+ for it... These 2-3 game suspensions aren't teaching anyone anything. Three more bad hits last night. Start hanging big numbers on these guys.

I'm angry at the PA. They call for more player safety, yet they stick up for Thornton in his appeal. They can't have it both ways. Either they call for stricter penalties to reduce injuries to themselves, or they protect the salaries of offending players. These 2-5 gamers don't do a thing.

Unions almost always fight for their guys. Even when they're wrong. Its the hypocracy of unions. Great for the members, bad for everyone else.

is it possible for you to make a single post without sharing your political views? i'm going to guess you enjoy weekends, holidays off and the good things unions have given to the majority of americans.

like anything else, conservatism or liberalism taken too far is not a good thing. compromise is vital. too much of anything is usually a bad thing, and beating everyone else over the head with your views is tiresome.

In this case, the union has members both benefiting and being hurt by the same things. In the long term, what is more important to the majority of the members of the unions? Healthy long careers that result in higher incomes, both annually and over the life of the player's career. Working in the interest of the malefactors rather than the victims is not "typical union practice."
