Back to John Scott are we? Very cool. I'll play.

-John Scott: Less dirty, more worthless
-Shawn Thornton: More dirty, less worthless

Vancouver: Trash
Boston: Trash

Done.

Argument: Thornton is a MUCH better player than John Scott

Proof:

Thornton Career PPG = 0.15 or roughly 12.3 per 82 games
John Scott Career PPG = 0.02 or roughly 1.6 per 82 games.

Conclusion: Thornton is 7.68x the player John Scott is.

- Double_A

Again, you argued that people undervalue Shawn Thornton as a player...compared to what? To John Scott? Sure he's a little better. Thornton is a 4th line goon that fights, just like Scott or Colton Orr or George Parros, there are better players than him on every AHL team. He's not there to play hockey. When a goon like him does something as dirty as that he shouldn't have the priveledge to play with actual hockey players ever again.

And I feel the exact same way about Scott

I didn't argue anything. You argued that Thornton WASN'T a significantly better player than Scott, Orr, etc. I merely pointed out you're wrong, very wrong. I'm under no delusions of what role Thornton plays, he also has a skillset better than those of most of his counterparts and isn't limited to playing NZ starts only and 3 minutes a night. He plays a regular shift and contributes as much outside of fisticuffs as many other "non-goon" 4th liners.

Lowest ice time per game on the team by at least 1:30. Like most 4th line scrubs

He plays 8:06 per game
the nex regular skater is Paille at 10:26

Not really a regular shift

Paille averages 45 seconds more ES time per game, basically 1 shift. Campell averages around 1:30 more, or 2 shifts. Seems like a regular shift to me.

8 minutes a game with 0 special teams time is not a regular shift. He takes about 3 shifts per period. And his ice time is probably padded when they are ahead by multiple goals in the third

PK accounts for the difference for the most part. Regardless, less ice time makes his production all the more impressive and is counter to your argument. You should probably just give up here boss. You're confusing 2 arguments. You hate "fighters" great, you're entitled to your opinion. Thornton is the most skilled/productive player that falls into that category for you AND contributes as much or more than other bottom 3 players that aren't "goons" , you can debate it, but you're not going to win.

He's not though. I have watched him play a lot. There is little difference to him, Scott, Orr, Parros etc. They all are there for one reason.

John Scott is the worst player in the NHL, Thornton is 4th line enforcer but he is roughly 7x the hockey player (see math above).

Do you expect teams to give each line 15 minutes of ice time? Obviously 4th liners don't get as much ice time as other players. Just because he doesn't play special teams doesn't mean he doesn't take a regular shift. There are plenty of useful players that don't get special teams time.

If you play in game 7 of the stanley cup finals you are not just another AHL plug.

So as proof you posted an article which proves the claim "wife beater" is false. Excellent use of deductive logic sir.

I hope no one ever starts unfounded rumours about you, that would be awful. I mean I'm sure you've wandered through a park alone before, probably means you want to abduct children or something.

No not at all. Most 4th liners that play a regular shift, play PK time or are spotted on other lines. Neither are the case for Thornton, he blows. End of story

people are severely underestimating Thornton's ability to play. he's a MUCH better player than Scott. aside from his mugging of orpik he's never done anything "goonish" other than fight.
- Fountain-San

I will agree Thornton has more value then Scott hockeywise but if people would be objective and watch Scott play in his own end you would see he plays pretty good defense. He doesn't allow the point man on his side to sneak in for a point blank shot like other Buffalo forwards do.
Now in saying that, I'm not saying he is a good hockey player but he does actually try and especially under Nolan.
As far as Thornton goes he has been a honest hockey player during his career but what he did was uncalled for. He deserves the 15 games if not more, Scott deservably got 10 for the unnecessary hit to Erickson's head which was wrong but still a hockey play. Thornton's action was much more serious, sleu-footing Orpik and then a couple gloved punches to the face. It could have been worse if Orpik's head had hit the ice when he was sleu-footed.
Orpik's hit was questionable when seen at full speed but slow motion shows he connected with the head and even though he is injured deserves a suspension.
Neal, 5 games wasn't enough 10 would have been more like it but then again there is a double standard in the NHL.

Idiots exist in every fan base. Just like the guy who sucker punched the Leafs fan in Boston last year, the DB in Toronto who raised up the Toronto stronger sign....etc.

The full story in Vancouver remains to be seen but if the one DB in Van did hit Lucic twice, he should count himself very fortunate that he's still upright.

- Canuckleafer

Keep in mind I'm not insinuating in any wave shape or form my fan base is above it or devoid of it. I am sick of Vancouver constantly thinking their fan base has some sort of moral high ground even though have been crying and trolling for three years now.

EDIT: You're also the 2nd Van Fan who has put those words in my mouth. When in doubt or have no real answer SPIN SPIN SPIN! (frank)ing pathetic...

What the hell are you talking about spin? I said if the db in the club did hit Lucic, he deserved it. I also in another thread said that the DB's who harassed his parents were pathetic as well. Most Canuck fans understand whole heartedly that a tiny portion of complete bumholes have made the city look bad.

Beyond that I said there were bumhole fans for every team, nothing more, nothing less.

Simmer down now.
