Speaking of fighting...do you think anyone in today's NHL could go with the early 90s version of guys like Probert, Dave Brown, Grimson, etc? Those guys were absolute warriors who could take and throw. None of this grab/tie-up/rabbit punch/grab/switch etc. I don't care how big Jon Scott is, I think Probert would win and win easily against him. |

Ty Anderson: Mass Appeal: Thornton fighting 15-game ban - tyanderson
Next time Thornton slew foots a guy to the ice from behind, punches him once knockin ghim out, then again while unconcious, maybe a 15 game suspension and a big chunk of his salary will disuade him from making a similar choice again...because you know...suspensions are supposed to be a deterrent to undesirable behaviousr, not a reward. |

I think this comes down go the organization taking responsibility and taking full control of the player like an adult to a child. Look what Pitt did after Cooke got suspended last year AGAIN. They basically laid it out that he wouldn't have a job anymore if he kept that garbage up. They made him change the dirty, garbage, cheap shot player that he was. And look what has happened. The guy gets signed by Minny, and if I'm not mistaken (dunno stats exactly) he doesn't have one major penalty and only 20 pim on the season. I'm sure Minny gave him the speech too before he signed.
The teams with repeat offenders need to step up and take care of these players. Like a bad little kid, nothing is gonna change until a parent steps up. I'm not saying that the enforcer role needs to be elimanted. But slew footing and bertuzzing a guy that clearly doesn't want to engage does not belong in the game. |

Thornton should be getting up to 25 years in prison for playing the Knockout Game on the ice. |

There are too many guys, present day NHL, that could hang with the likes of Probert and Dave Brown. There's not as many true tough guys in the league anymore because there's not really a need for them like there was back then.
Chara and Lucic are probably two of the toughest guys in the NHL, not in the class of the all-time best though. |

It shouldn't play in as much as the intent. One was accidental, one was premeditated.
Neal purposely attempted to injure Marchand in a manner which is well outside the regular standards of play. - Canuckleafer
I understand, but major facial surgery, and nothing happened to Marchand.. Makes a big difference. |

The important thing is, Thornton's really sorry. Not 15 games sorry, mind you. But, you know, sorry. |

Lucic is a wife-beating, spot-picker. Lost all respect for his "toughness" after watching him skate away from Georges Laraque all night, while Julien kept his balls in a purse. |

people are severely underestimating Thornton's ability to play. he's a MUCH better player than Scott. aside from his mugging of orpik he's never done anything "goonish" other than fight. |

Thorntons suspension was for a Completly different reason than kaletas. I don't feel that bettman will lessen the suspension. Also, what are your guys opinions on the Lucic incident ? |

He's not though. I have watched him play a lot. There is little difference to him, Scott, Orr, Parros etc. They all are there for one reason. |

Yes that 4.9 goals per 82 games really backs up your point. He must be so valuable. I bet you will then tell me he kills penalties or something. Well that 0:00 Sh/TOI statistic disagrees, but seriously try and prove his worth any way you can |

Argument: Thornton is a MUCH better player than John Scott
Proof:
Thornton Career PPG = 0.15 or roughly 12.3 per 82 games
John Scott Career PPG = 0.02 or roughly 1.6 per 82 games.
Conclusion: Thornton is 7.68x the player John Scott is.

Back to John Scott are we? Very cool. I'll play.
