I get the interest in Hartnell. I do think he's the kind of guy you'd want around playoff time.

The kicker with any deal involving Hartnell involves the likelihood of taking salary back.

- johndewar

UGH! Say no to taking salary back. He has 5 years left on that contract after this season...
No thanks.
With the cap going up I could see it would be an option but one I would HATE.

I think you'd be able to trade Hartnell after this year, when things aren't so tight, cap-wise.

If you want to rank some hate try these 5 dirtbags from past and present:
James Neal
Tomas Sandstrom
Claude Lemieux
Dale Hunter
The Plager Bros (fans under 45 may not remember them, but they utterly Terrorized the Flyers in the late 60s and early 70s)

let's get some trades up in this female dog.

Both Schenns and Vorachek for Evander Kane and Byfuglien.

Then sign Phaneuf on the offseason. Blue line = FIXED yo!

Not certain on this but i think they are pretty close to the cap so would think salary would have to come back in any deal.
- Marc D

Im pretty sure if St Louis traded Shattenkirk for Hartnell, Hitch would go postal!

If they could get picks and prospects back for Hartnell and he would waive his NTC you have to consider it. He is going to be a big name third line power forward the next few years.
- Marc D

He already is. Simmonds-Schenn-Hartnelll is the third line on this team.

Well I think one of Coburn or Grossman will be gone after this season. Mezsaros is gone too
- 2Real

Coburn is only strong skating defenseman on the team. If he is traded then it needs to be in a package for a #1 defenseman who is as good at skating and defense but provides the offense Coburn can't. Otherwise this will be the slowest defense in the league.

I love it!

(Although, Hartsy should be keeping PJ Stock and Jarkko Ruutu company!)

I can think of any number of players on St. Louis I would personally drive Hartnell to the airport to acquire.

I think if no one is traded we have a 3rd line of Vinnie centering Hartnell and Simmonds to look forward to.

Yeah, almost half the league is eating into LTIR... good luck finding a partner with enough cap-space to absorb a Kimmo or Mez... even Downie.

I remember that video. Once it goes to OT, you can just see their look of impending doom. Their faces are just blank stares.

Colorado have $59,749,194 of deadline cap space. Hopefully they will be up for renting Kimmo.

Don't forget which Flyers are named the scapegoat, win or lose. Candidates are:

1. Mark Streit (He's old and overpaid, and sucks offensively)
2. Scott "Suck" Hartnell (old, slow, overpaid, no talent, etc.)
3. Claude "Fraud" Giroux (overpaid, underperformer, bad captain)
4. Jake Voracek (one-hit wonder, etc.)
5. Wayne Simmonds (see Voracek)
6. Braydon Coburn (he's...bad, somehow, apparently?)

God forbid we criticize players who aren't performing. Your posts are old man.

A player has a bad.season and you want us to line up to worship him no matter what. Fits your mold.

Yes. That's exactly what I'm saying. Speaking of which, why didn't we trade Couturier last season? This whole board agreed that he had a bad season and was therefore a bust. We should have dumped him on someone else.

I have no problem with criticizing a player who isn't playing well. But this board is so fickle from game to game it's ridiculous. Right now, people are pleading for Hartnell to be given away for whatever return we can get. If (if) he turns it around in a few weeks and regains his 25-goal self, people will be singing his praises and calling his a key piece of the team.

I have no problem with citicizing a guy, but I'm just asking people to stick to it. Coburn also fits this: a month ago, it was "We need to get rid of him now, he's terrible" and now it's "He's our best defenseman and a good deal for his cap hit." Criticizing is one thing, angrily demanding we dump a player after a bad month is another.

You mean, with the cap going up?
- johndewar

So the cap going up justifies us keeping his contract for the term and putting up with rapid decline in play?
Everyone always complaining we have no money to spend, these are the reasons why

Ya if we take back a mil of salary or so I don't think Hartnell is as untradeable as a lot of people here would have you think. I just think it's a matter of having him sign off any trade that's the big problem. I think he loves it here.

I get to watch kids while wife does $mas shopping tonight ... Yay
So it should be interesting to see how this team responds... It really is sad to see a flyers team that is this mediocre. But being 4 points out of a playoff spot is reason to hope I suppose.
