For a former high-skill player, Oates is surprisingly...not opposed to tough, borderline, maybe even dirty play. McPhee's always been a guy who likes having the John Erskines of the world around, but they both love Tom Wilson.

The Caps are an interesting organization, at times, with how McPhee approaches things.

- AllInForFlyers

Oates was/is also an outstanding lacrosse player and a big part of that sport is being aware of a guy coming to level you and being able to roll out of it and minimize the impact.

Still, I think it's spin doctoring to send a clear message to the league that they feel Wilson did nothing wrong.

I fing hate McPhee. That's just political hate. Add hockey hate and I'm ready to ship him off to north korea to play basketball with dennis rodman.

I couldn't give a rat's ass about his politics. Not relevant in any way, shape or form.

I do think he's got a golden horseshoe up his ass as a GM, though.

I've just been lurking the last few days, but I'm glad some have acknowledged that Mark Streit, after a stretch of tough games, has played solidly, even well, the last couple.

It's a long season, and I don't think he should be the whipping boy automatically when he doesn't play well. He's leading the team in scoring by the defense, and I have a feeling that won't be close by season's end.

Not saying that makes him a great player, because he has flaws. But he has some strengths as well.

- AllInForFlyers

he made some timonesque defensive plays tonight, even got a tiny bit physical with a few people. let's hope this week is where we look back and think this was where he turned a corner.

Agreed, and while they would never say it, you know they're thinking the league owes them one for Emery-Holtby.

schenn was buzzing before he got killed. i thought for sure he was going to score. and even without the goal i thought streit had a great game. raffl is somehow now the best passer on the team.

if wilson gets less than five i will be ticked off.

- -davies-

Raffl needs to be a bit more careful on his longer puck carrying stints, or one of these times he's going to get smoked.

But I'm really enjoying watching him develop and gain confidence. That pass he slipped to Simmonds was sweet, very similar to the setup he gave to Streit on his goal last game.

Agreed -- I mean, let's be honest: We kinda need this player to perform. That's just God's honest truth -- we don't have anybody in our system ready to do what Streit does when he's playing well.

Also possible. Like I said, I'm a bit disappointed, but I get what they're saying & why they are saying it

Actually all that matters is having enough points to make the playoffs.

He's played very well the last few games. He keeps doing that and I have ZERO issue with him in the lineup.

We've only had overtime/shootout loser points for 14 years now, so you can't expect everyone to understand the system yet.

The role players on this team are getting better, stepping up their game. And I like that Berube seems to have the confidence to use all of his players in (just about) any game situation, and they seem to be playing hard/smart to not disappoint.

Really nice to see the confidence growing in several players.
Streit looks comfortable and Voracek is looking to shoot first which makes him way more effective. I saw Raffl as a great 4th line option but he has higher potential then that. Simmonds and Coburn continue their very good play.
Mase looked shaky the first half of the game but battled through it.

Very encouraged by Streit and Voracek, they both have big roles on this team and are looking better lately.

Hope Schenner is ok.
FU McPhee that play was not a good hit, jagoff

Shenn did set himself up a bit by turning away at the last second but Wilson should have laid off the gas given the proximity to the boards. I hope Shenner is OK. Heck I hope he is in the lineup for the home and home vs. Columbus... 'specially since I'll be in C-bus on Saturday. Hate to see guys go down on borderline hits.

Hate seeing guys get hurt but schenn Turning last second will work in favour for the other guy but he was cruising at him.

It's true. Ties should be settled by duels with guns, like real men would do.
