Question of the day: Why is Lander here? When are they gonna realize he's exactly what they don't need right now......he's the Paarjarvi 2.0......5 games back....not a single point....nothing new there....In 72 games in the show he has 7 pts !!!!! And 6 of them he scored in the 2011 - 12 season......Why is this guy still an Oiler? He's one of these players IMO that will develop into an NHLer at the ripe old age of 26-27 yrs. His progression has been far too slow.....bury him or package him up with Omark & Co.

If Lander would have developed up to his potential and made the team out if the gates , webwouldbhave won 12 or 13 more games this year, so yeah, he's a worry.

I'm more concerned with the guys that play more than 10 minutes a night.

Lander was a waste of a pick IMO, but him playing 5 games this year isn't the issue.

Living in the past? why don't you get real intimate and kinky with a hot curling iron? I am very much aware of the current state of affairs.
Canucks are a better team today, everyone knows that. Just like how everyone knows what their fan base is all about. Who cares? Neither team is in Danger of winning a Cup anytime soon.

I was being totally sarcastic. Remember all that 'in Stu we trust Bull shot' a few years back ? Sure he picked Ebs when 18 or 19 teams ahead of him should have. Good on him. The lottery picks could be made by anyone, what else has he done? Goaltending prospects suck, some okay D that need to hurry the (frank) up and develope, a bunch of midgets we had to purge (Omark, Rajala, Reider) and absolutely no one in OKC in any real danger of making an NHL impact anytime soon. Our scouting department is really no better than the one that drafted Rita, Niinamaki, or Alex Plante.

I realize there are more important issues to address....but Lander probably was the best pick (40th) at the time.....not many others in his draft year behind him are a lot better. The point is the Oil need to show a little more aggression and a little less patience during this rebuild by this point in time. They should consider rebuilding their Pro and Amateur Scouting staffs if they can't reliably target who's needed to move this club forward.

My issue is at best he is a 3rd line center captain. Been that way from day 1. Why do you waste a draft pick on him and the years developing him when you can sign guys like Gordon every year?

I just can't get on board with drafting role players in round 2.

Musil is another. What is he bottom pairing at best? Maybe a couple years as a number 4?

I don't know who to blame. I think GM's have a lot to do with the drafting. Stu talked about how ST changed the type of players that the scouting staff should be prioritizing. Talked about drafted good character guys. Now MacT has him looking at the best skilled guys out there.

A lot of the guys we drafted like Pitlick, hamilton, Martindale, Marincin, Gernat etc.. all were guys that needed time. So it is hard to blame Stu as these guys are still developing. My other question is who takes the blame for bringing Pitlick to the AHL early?

As for goalies, I've said for quite some time I rather not draft them. They are a (frank)ing crap shoot. Spend money and time scouting pro's in Europe.

I am kinda curious who is the one in love with the Oil Kings though.

Pitlick, marincin, gernat, klefbom, nurse all still have the jury out...

Those were positions and players we needed.

Giving them time to develop doesnt make them bad picks.
And those are the high to middling picks.

Any chance of a low end pick making an impact probably takes even longer

Well Hall's draft was not good, aside from him. As for Pitlick. You have to trust your AHL coach if he think Pitluck can make his team. Micro-Managing rarely works.

Also the oil King thing makes sense, and remember, they brought in Musil and Gernat after they were Oiler prospects.
I seriously doubt GM's know anything outside the top 100 draft eligible players. That's the scouts job. The GMs go to the Prospect game and the combine ,maybe a WJHC if it's in NA and that is it.

No, but if the GM's is telling you to draft a certain type of player over what you as a scout think would be better then how do you blame the scout?

I also wouldn't say that they only know things on the top 100, there are bloggers that know about more than a 100.
