thanks, we're good here. i would like to get away from the small perimeter players that our former gm couldnt get enough of. pretty much the last thing i want is a guy like that to come in and chip in just enough goals to drop us out of the top 3, while never having a chance of helping us get where we wanna go.

If we're looking at trades for top pairing D, first you have to take away the teams that are in playoff contention. Second, you have to take away the young D they're building around. Third, you have to take away cornerstone players like Shea Weber that are never going to get moved.

IMO, here's what you're left with.

Columbus - Wizniewski, Tyutin, Johnson
Philadelphia - Coburn
Florida - Campbell, Kulikov
Buffalo - Ehrhoff, Myers
Dallas - Goligoski
Winnipeg - Bogosian, Enstrom, Byfuglien

If we were looking at a trade for a Dman, it's one of those 12 players.

Convince them that they would be better off with whatever we are offering.

The wild card is Gaborik, there was heavy rumors a few weeks back that he'd be dealt by the trade deadline. So until he is dealt they probably don't move anyone else.

very funny isn't it? fans of other teams have acted for years like they could build the oilers into a contender in a weekend...fact of the matter is it's not that easy to make any team into a contender. When it clicks we might end up crediting it to a certain player or trade, but good teams are often just far greater than the sum of their parts.
