Hey you got a problem when someone points out when you're being a jack a$$, I got a novice idea for you, don't be a jack a$$.
- Mentalorgasm5

Ya, really. That comment was uncalled for.

No, no! FA like Ryan Callahan you can build around. Even though I don't see the Rangers letting him go, but that has to be the thinking. Look to win next year!
- Irish 14

You really can't build around a 2nd line winger. You can add one when you have a team of real players though

I might be one of the few on here to say this but please stay away from him. As much as I like the guys game he is constantly injured. He doesn't help this team if he is on IR

The cap floor was reported to be around 52 mil. It wont be hard to get to the cap floor IMO.

McNabb 1.25
Scott. .75
Foligno 2.0
Ennis 4.5
Ott 5.0
#1 pick 3.775

That's 17.275 right there and they still need to sign/call up 6 players. Those 6 players will come in around 10-12 mil. Cap floor reached.

$5M to Ott....

I know but your acting as if his formula to success was solely hitting on late round picks. Their system of letting guys develope, making the right trades and FA signings, drafting as a whole, scouting, everything they do organizationally has been pretty impressive
- sbroads24

Absolutely. What I'm trying to quell, however, is the idea that just because the Red Wings built a team through so many non high round picks that it's the way to go. They're the exception, not the rule. Scouting has changed so dramatically, especially with technology, in the past 5 or 10 years alone that the "diamonds in the rough" are going to be fewer and farther between, even for someone like Ken Holland.

unless they are signing callahan, stastny, phaneuf, gaborik, cammalleri, quincey and boyle, this team is not even close to winning next year

In the spirit of discussion here is my rebuttal to what we should do between now and next October.

- Hire a competent GM.
- Trade Miller yesterday
- Lose as many games as possible
- Draft Reinhart
- Move Moulson for a 1st and flip that with whatever it takes to move into a position to draft Dal Colle
- Re sign Ott
- Re sign Scott
- Buy out Leino
- Buy out Stafford
- Aquire whatever Free Agents it takes to sneak above the cap floor. They will all be irrelevant anyway.
- Review goalie situation in 2015

No, I'm with you, I want high draft picks. That's the safest and surest way. All I'm saying is that they should try to mirror what they do in every facet all the while drafting high

Hes going to get it on the open market unfortunately.

If they want to keep him, its going to cost them.

Not saying I'm happy about it.

Right. I was talking about the draft philosophy by itself. I think even Ken Holland has changed his quite a bit.

Ironically enough. You pretty much agree with everything I think they should do. However k want to see them Keith thacuck(sp) trade him and sign him in off season.

On a team with that's not cash strapped, not going to make any noise any time soon, and needs to sign somebody just get to the cap floor, I don't really care. Unless someone offers you somebody ridiculously good for him, overpaying anybody shouldn't be a concern at this point unless it's for more than 4 or 5 years.
