While that list is nothing short of outstanding, I doubt you will see a similar success story from anybody for a long, long time if ever. The Red Wings, while great, are an anomaly.

I forgive you.

Why don't you like Moulson? Also if we get rid of him, it's likely for a 1 round pick which just reinforces the draft direction.

- sambarugh

Asking for your forgiveness was sarcasm.

Strangely enough mouslen was one of the few players I hated before the sabres got him. And he has shown me nothing to warrant a five million plus contract.

Im fine with acquiring more picks. Use them on players or trade the picks for someone the sabres
Desire. But the simple fact is they are going to have to spend money, a signicant of it to get to the floor. And I'll be damned if I'm told to keep quiet when I throw out some names I want the sabres to target in a sabres forum.

The only top pick on the Red Wings team when they won the cup in 08, which they acquired via trade, was Brad Stuart #3 overall.

Red Wings are the perfect model organization.

100% agree as you can see by the list its the areas scouts used to never go.

I really don't think so. If you wipe the slate clean, and make Ken Holland start from scratch, I highly doubt he reaches that kind of success again, not in the later rounds anyway.

I bet he comes close. By your logic, a team that has made the playoffs for 2 decades straight has done it mostly by dumb luck. I don't buy that

I don't think it's "dumb luck" that he has hit on so many draft picks. The luck part comes that nearly all of his main cogs have not come from the first round, or even first two rounds. I think Ken Holland still has the capability of building a good team, but I think his next generation is going to come more from the earlier rounds.

Holland is an excellent GM. He went from scout to assistant to GM and has a immaculate résumé with the Wings

Guys fall in the drafts all the time. Datsyuk fell off a cliff because he was Russian and was considered risky. Teams knew his skill level to an extent. Holland pulled the trigger and hit gold.

GM coming soon?

Everyone is talking Reinhart and tanking? Look at Edmonton, hasn't worked. We have loads of $$ (salary cap floor) coming up next year, get some top young experienced FA and compete next year. That's LaFontaine thinking, trust me.

Throw $$ at:

Ryan Callahan
Paul Stastny
Yandle

Give McNabb the ice time he deserves

Big Z - future captain!

Move Miller/Ott for a young 1st line star.

This is the more realistic approach, not continuing on this path. Look at Drouin down in the minors, nothing is given

You're misunderstanding what I'm saying. I'm not saying he isn't a great GM. What I'm saying is that I doubt even he is able to mold such a great team out of so many late rounders again. When it's time to acquire the heirs to Zetterberg, Datsyuk, etc., he's going to get them much earlier in the draft, not in the late rounds again. They'll probably be more than suitable replacements. They just won't be 6th or 7th rounders.
