LA didnt tank for years. It took Chicago nearly two decades. And Pitt lucked out with b2b years of Malkin and Crosby. Doesnt matter where you draft, it matters who is picking the players in the draft. Bottoming out doesnt work out well too often.

seriously?

Its a board of discussion, keep it quiet if you have a problem with others ideas of what the sabres might do.

Yep, a team that traded for Pallie (nice job Darcy), Horton etc.....
- Irish 14

Right, but Horton isn't a centerpeice of any team, he's a compliment. Bergeron, Krecji, Lucic etc are guys that were drafted and developed by them. The only centerpeice player they have that was aquired outside of the draft is Chara

as long as they aren't stupid and handcuff us when some of the young guys need RFA contracts
- IndianaSabresFan

The way this cap constantly goes up, they'll be find. I have yet to see a team that is willing to spend money get handcuffed, there is always loopholes.

we really are yet to see what that is.. i don't know what direction they are going to go.. i kind of hope it is a hybrid of the tank. get the picks this year and next but still go after some vet and mid age players in FA market

An opinion isnt a point, like a I said if you dont like others talking about moves the sabres might do in the offseaon, this might not be the place for you.

i am going to draw a comparison between Paille and Zemgus here. tell me if you think i am crazy..

Paille came to this team and was slated as a 3rd line player at best with good defensive skills, leadership and small offensive upside. He started playing in buffalo and showed a lot of hustle and hard work. Scored a bunch of flukey goals one season and a lot of people had a huge orgasm over him. They tried to force the square peg into a round hole and put him on the top line or 2nd line repeatedly. When he didn't work in that position everyone got mad and they traded him away..

my moral of the story here is lets not all get ahead of ourselves with Zemgus. let things work themselves out before we anoint him the next czar of sabres

- IndianaSabresFan

Zemgus isn't projected to be a 3rd line player at best though. So that's a bad comparison.

Sabres need to spend money somewhere they are going to be 23 million under the floor. I guess its crazy for us to think they might sign FAs. Either that, or we are apparently not allowed to talk about it.

I guess "superstars" such as downie, stastny and callahan are unattainable.

Downie is a superstar?

LA traded for Richards/Carter.......
- Irish 14

LA drafted Doughty 2nd overall
LA traded their 5th overall choice in Brayden Schenn to get Richards
LA traded a 7th overall choice in Jack Johnson and a 1st for Carter

Teams are built with and through the draft

This literally proves they are not. You can trade assets to others to get what you want. There is no one way to build a team.

No it literally proves that they are......
They took assets that they aquired through the draft and built a team. They didnt go sign mega free agents and win the cup

They let other teams sign the players, they moved picks to get players, its not building through the draft.

The same thing was said of Tavares....and MacKinnon....

I'll believe it when I see it translate into the NHL game. I'm sure he's really good. But the Crosby comparison is starting to get a bit tiresome.

- HonkFortheGoose

You really need to make a trip to an OHL game to see him play . Your opinion will change . He is the next great one like Lemieux was to Gretzky . That is why people make the comparison to the last great prospect . There are lots of good and very good prospects . The exceptional ones are few and far between.

Hahaha, hence the quotes, as you and other talk about the impossibility of the sabres signing FAs. None of them where superstars
