and we would still finish worst this year, and get the first, and get more assets with the Miller Mouslen and Ott trades. So no it doesnt sound familar. - Mentalorgasm5

Reinhart isn't going to make us better overnight. Pits first year with Crosby they finished somewhere near the bottom of the NHL. I'm not sure how much Mouslon and Miller will really bring in, I wouldn't count on it being anything game changing though. |

You mean the team that DRAFTED Bergeron, Marchand, lucic and made a trade to acquire a former 1st round goaltender and a 2 top ten picks?

GM coming soon?
Everyone is talking Reinhardt and tanking? Look at Edmonton, hasn't worked. We have loads of $$ (salary cap floor) coming up next year, get some top young experienced FA and compete next year. That's LaFontaine thinking, trust me.
Throw $$ at:
Ryan Callahan
Paul Stastny
Yandle
Give McNabb the ice time he deserves
Big Z - future captain!
Move Miller/Ott for a young 1st line star.
This is the more realistic approach, not continuing on this path. Look at Drouin down in the minors, nothing is given - Irish 14
No thanks - tank another year for McDavid . I have gone to see him play 3 times so far .He is the real deal ! I would put up with another year of pain for a shot at this kid in 2015 . Best player available since Crosby ! |

i am going to draw a comparison between Paille and Zemgus here. tell me if you think i am crazy..
Paille came to this team and was slated as a 3rd line player at best with good defensive skills, leadership and small offensive upside. He started playing in buffalo and showed a lot of hustle and hard work. Scored a bunch of flukey goals one season and a lot of people had a huge orgasm over him. They tried to force the square peg into a round hole and put him on the top line or 2nd line repeatedly. When he didn't work in that position everyone got mad and they traded him away..
my moral of the story here is lets not all get ahead of ourselves with Zemgus. let things work themselves out before we anoint him the next czar of sabres |

Sabres need to spend money somewhere they are going to be 23 million under the floor. I guess its crazy for us to think they might sign FAs. Either that, or we are apparently not allowed to talk about it.
I guess "superstars" such as downie, stastny and callahan are unattainable. |

we really are yet to see what that is.. i don't know what direction they are going to go.. i kind of hope it is a hybrid of the tank. get the picks this year and next but still go after some vet and mid age players in FA market |

The whole "look at edmonton thing" has to stop. Their problem wasn't that they started a fresh rebuild and drafted 1st overall three straight years. The reason they still suck is when it came time to pull the trigger on a big deal to address their needs (defense) from their surplus (offense) they balked at it and instead became obsessed with their draft picks.
As for building through FA, not a chance in hell either of those signs to play for this team. Callahan will remain the captain of the rangers and Stastny will go play for a contender. Building through FA is exactly why teams like NYR and Philadelphia (and even toronto to an extent) are a mess. If you want sustained success for plenty of years you need franchise players and those guys aren't available through FA because no team is stupid enough to let them go.
Once we get the franchise building blocks and the kids grow up a bit then the thought of playing for the sabres becomes more enticing to FA. I'd like to think we can do what chicago did, draft our Kane and Toews and then add secondary guys like Hossa and Campbell. If we start going balls to the wall in free agency we end up coming back full circle to the mediocre hovering around 9th place mess that we were in 2008. - Sabresfan-365

The same thing was said of Tavares....and MacKinnon....
I'll believe it when I see it translate into the NHL game. I'm sure he's really good. But the Crosby comparison is starting to get a bit tiresome. |
