Lets be clear here, I'm not condoning what Thronton did? It bothers me to think that Orpik is considered this innocent victim and that he did nothing to merit outrage from the Bruins... What Thornton did crossed a line, but in the same light, Orpik is no angel and he got what he deserved.

Let's be clear, I don't care if you condone it. I don't care what you think about anything. Your opinion means less to me than what the 76'ers eat as a pregame meal. You're a troll who runs around claiming the Pens are dirty when you have a dirty team yourself run by a goon GM and a goon coach. You have been well known as the dirtiest team in the last 40 years and you embraced it. We have dirty players, we admit it. Ours just score lots of goals and yours could be mistaken for a parking stall. What we don't do is run into the Flyers blog unprovoked to tell you all about them. This could be construed as trolling, which is a bannable offense.

You've had 2 or 3 plays in the last 4 games (at least) that could have been suspendable and your team didn't get so much as a hearing, yet you'll turn around and play the "League hates the Flyers" card.

It's always someone elses fault, everyone else gets special treatment. Such is the life as a Flyers fan.

The state of New York is having a rough sports year.

Rangers
Isles
Sabres
Devils
Giants
Jets
Knicks
Nets
Yankees
Mets

Potentially 0 playoff games. Although I think the Rangers will find a way to get in.

Guess I will wade in here. I see any attempt at a culture change to be pure window dressing. Eliminating head shots while still allowing players to drop the gloves and hit one another repeatedly in the head makes the NHL a bit laughable. As is saying Orpik has to fight t because he hit a player in the head with a check deemed legal by the officials.
Tougher penalties and suspensions should be and will be more effective than endless frontier justice.

I am saying this as someone who does not mind seeing the occasional scrap. The staged square offs between 3 minute a night 4th liners has no place for me.

Thank dog it is a game night... really tiring of all the Orpik violated the code crap.

Do you know what the word 'condone' means?

con·done

1. accept and allow (behavior that is considered morally wrong or offensive) to continue.

If you are saying that what Thorton did was wrong, but that it was OK you are condoring his actions.

- s0rcerer1984

No, I'm saying that despite Thornton's actions being wrong, the fact that Orpuke was knocked out is justice. Had it happened by a hit, a slash, anything, the fact he was also hurt is justice. I hope when he comes back someone pops him with a predatory hit and see how you guys and your team take it.

Honest question, since you're one of the handful of Flyers fans here that I like and respect.

How often do you see Penguin fans come in Meltzer's blog spewing garbage like this guy? Or the others that come out of the woodwork to give their 2 cents anytime something controversial happens...

people can blame orpik for thortnon being a POS and doing the dirt deed he did, but the refs during the game and the league at any point since could have very well suspended orpik or at least reviewed the hit(on erikson) just to make it known they were considering it, and they didnt. It was an unfortunate hockey play. orpik plays hard, sometimes borderline for sure, but I dont think hes dirty

people should be blaming bartkohski or krug or whoever put that suicide pass in front of erikson...

now neal kneeing marchand in the head, sure it was dirty, no respect there, but in my book does marchand deserve any respect, my only issue is that he didnt knee him harder...if you are going to get suspended at least make it worth it, marrchand is the dirtiest POS and biggest p*ssy out there

...I'll ask once again. Do you know what the word 'condone' means?

Do you need me to explain it to you? If you are saying that Thorton's actions were wrong, but nonetheless acceptable then you are, in fact, are condoning Thorton's actions.

And if a Bruins player lays a legal hit out on Orpik, so be it. It's a legal hit! If you don't like the hit, change the rules to make it illegal.

I'm no fan of Marchand, but that's a pretty stupid philosophy. If you want to hurt Marchand, score a goal or two while he is on the ice or hit him legally when he has the puck. No need or room for cheap shots. It just takes away from the game.

If it happens it's exceedingly rare, from Pens fans and from other fanbases. I think there's just an inordinately high Flyers fan population on this website. I try not to take it personally when the, "of course a Flyers fan something something you're all classless idiots," posts come out, because of exactly what you're getting at. It really does happen a lot, I don't like it either.

But to those posters here who actually do think it's representative of our entire fanbase (beyond this website), and that such cretins do not exist in other fanbases, I think that's buying into the narrative too much.

So now you've got my two cents, though not from the woodworks. I like to think of myself as the official unofficial resident Flyers fan.

Not to mention it opens the door for Chara or Lucic to take a healthy illegal run at Crosby or Malkin.

Although we have had our disagreements, you have been the most respectable Flyers fan I have come in contact with.

Also have saved me from a ban a time or 2. I haven't forgotten

Hey, it wouldn't be much of a forum if there wasn't potential to disagree, right? I say let the blood boil, as long as it stays mostly witty.

Yeah, I get it. The frustration is easy to give into, especially on the net. I just look at the after effects & think about what it does to the game.

I mean, Thorton is a 4th-line nothing that plays a poor 8min a night. Marchand may be a pest, but the guy is a capable NHL player, similar to Cooke in my book. Meanwhile, Neal is a scored 10G in 16gms & helped the Penguins PP sky-rocket since he got into the lineup. Orpik is a steady Dman that plays ~22min a night.

Sure, taking Thorton off the ice & throwing him in the Press Box for 15-20gms makes the NHL better, but the loss of Neal, Orpik, or Marchand doesn’t. It just isn’t worth it. Just play the game within the rules & let the result on the ice dictate the result. Better that than thuggery.
