In a sense I can see where you're coming from, but I find it quite literally impossible to believe there was no intent behind it. Neal has a history of dirty shots and plays..

Im a big Neal fan!! In my eyes, much like Crosby; he grasps what hockey is all about.

Wonderful. Our board is attacked by another Flyer fan that conveniently forgets he's a fan of the dirtiest team the league has ever known. I wonder where he was after the multiple mindless dirty shots his team took at the Blackhawks the other night?

A "new jersey Day?"

I see what you did there Gunner.

I also agree game 6 in 99 was Jagr's finest hour here. IIRC, the team was in the midst of all the Marino era financial trouble and there was serious concern it might be the end of the Pens in Pittsburgh, so the win was a huge lift for Pens fans. That was a fun team....German Titov..great hockey name!

I guess so... Orpik is a female dog. His hit on Eriksson was predatory and he should have answered the bell.
- Flyers_V88

Yes an open ice check with an opponent carrying the puck through the neutral zone....yes let's villify that more than somone slew-footing and assaulting another player from behind. Or another player kneeing someone in the head.

Your logic is (frank)ing stupid.

The Penguins are a dirty (frank)ing team. They get away with murder on the ice. Brooks Orpik is a dirty player. Have some respect for your fellow peers... Orpik didn't and threw a direct head-shot check to a player with recent a documented concussion problems. Eriksson hadn't even touched the puck yet.

Watch the video again, Orpik leads into the head, and that is a hit that is no longer permitted in the NHL, and the fact he wouldn't fight after if a testament to poor character or small balls, either one. You wanna be wreckless with your hitting, answer the bell after. Don't be a school-girl and skate away.

It also has to do with respect too. What if someone came and smacked old Sid right in the head on a hit like that? You're telling me you'd be "ok" with it given his concussion history? The game is trying to change its culture, and hits and actions like these are only detrimental to any type of change.

How did you feel about all those dirty shots the Flyers took at the Blackhawks the other night?

Or....how do you feel about Chris F'n Pronger? One of the dirtiest mother f'rs to ever play the game.

Schenn got lucky he wasn't suspended or fined, and I thought during the game he would have been for sure. And Chris Pronger, and other players from his generation, are not the best to compare to the context of the game today. When they came into the league, virtually ALL of this stuff that is illegal now was legal back then...

Guess I will wade in here. I see any attempt at a culture change to be pure window dressing. Eliminating head shots while still allowing players to drop the gloves and hit one another repeatedly in the head makes the NHL a bit laughable. As is saying Orpik has to fight t because he hit a player in the head with a check deemed legal by the officials.

Tougher penalties and suspensions should be and will be more effective than endless frontier justice.

I am saying this as someone who does not mind seeing the occasional scrap. The staged square offs between 3 minute a night 4th liners has no place for me.

Thank dog it is a game night... really tiring of all the Orpik violated the code crap.

Lets be clear here, I'm not condoning what Thronton did? It bothers me to think that Orpik is considered this innocent victim and that he did nothing to merit outrage from the Bruins... What Thornton did crossed a line, but in the same light, Orpik is no angel and he got what he deserved.

He should have been allowed, no encouraged, to play without a helmet. Those locks should have never been covered up.

Legendary...

The fact he was taken off of the Pens ring of honor in the locker-room is an embarrassment.

This is all you need to know about the dirtiest team in the league. No surprise whose leading the stats in the worst categories...

Go preach on your own board because clearly the team you root for has more problems than ours.

Do you know what the word 'condone' means?

con·done

1. accept and allow (behavior that is considered morally wrong or offensive) to continue.

If you are saying that what Thorton did was wrong, but that it was OK you are condoring his actions.

The Thornton decision will be the result of a week's work by a team of very high priced lawyers. The furthest thing from a hockey decision you can find.

In all fairness, it isn't exactly like what Thorton did was a hockey play either. He wasn't playing the puck, delivering a body check, or even initiating a fight under the NHL's 'code.'

He jumped an unsuspecting person, physically assaulted them, & put them in the hospital with a serious injury. If he wasn't on a professional hockey rink he'd have been thrown in jail for doing something like that.

Hockey is so easy to love.

It would be so awesome if Byfuglien does end up as a Flyer, I would love to hate his guts.
