People get so worked up about cap hits, but in the next few years, the cap is going to skyrocket. Hartnells contract won't be as bad as people assume.
- PhillySportsGuy

In the next few years, Hartnell's effectiveness will also decline at a similar rate, so it's not like the bad contract will ever cease to be a bad contract.

I just dont see why you would have a problem with it at all. So what if people chant USA USA. I know it's no longer cool to show pride of country these days, but I'll take a 2x4 toteing Hacksaw Jim Duggan any day.... HOOOOOOOO!

Thank you and Darn you to whomever posted that air hockey beer pong table... I have been surfing craigslist to buy a used table now, so I can make this for my brother.

Figure all I have to do is get PCP pipe that fits Red Solo cup, that way when you put the cup in the board, the cup rim isnt exposed. Just have to figure out how to cut the holes without damaging the board.

Cant be too hard.

My brother loves drinking game, and has a bunch of redneck games too. From Bear Pong, to Urban Horseshoes. They even throw annual drinking game competitions, although they might not happen this year, as the host has just deployed for a year in Afganistan.

I don't get how people think Hartnell has "declined." He's not slower than he was before (if you start at zero, hard to go backwards). He's never been a good defensive player. He's always taken stupid penalties. He was good at crashing the net and ripping those one-timers from the slot on the PP, and he's not being given a chance to do that due to the ineffectiveness of his linemates. I'm not sure what his "decline" has been.

What made Hartnell effective was he was able to agitate, get goalies off thier games. Get other players to take dumb penalties with him, and was able to hit like a freight train.

I haven't seen any of this since he came back from his injury last season. All his on ice "fire" is gone. And that is what made him effective IMO. Knocking into the goalie. Chirping after the plays... Just being the most hated person on the team... and now... not so much.

I notice it the most in his balance and body control... he used to be tougher to move in front of the net, stronger along the walls, able to bully his way into position... now he's flopping around like a dead fish, sometimes without even being touched.

I agree that most of his physical tools are still there... his hands are still fine, his shot is still ok, and he still skates pretty well... but when all that starts breaking down too, it's going to be pretty ugly.

He's clearly lost some "burst" speed -- the reason he's not producing 5v5 doesn't have anything to do with ineffective linemates; he's the one who can't keep up with Giroux and Voracek.

The reason he looked moderately better with Schenn and Simmonds is that, well...they're not as fast. I'd wager that he'd look fairly decent with Couturier and Downie, as well.

From what I saw, Brendan Gallagher and Brian Gionta planted themselves in front of Mason in the waning seconds of the game and Mason took exception.

A real quick, very basic, very cursory, snapshot of exactly what's going down with Scott Hartnell is even-strength scoring.

In 28 games, he's got six points at even strength.

Jakub Voracek's got 10, in 32 games. Claude Giroux? Also known as Fraud Giroux? He's got 11, in 32 games.

Scott Hartnell was black-holing Line 1. In one game last night, Michael Raffl had two even-strength points as a member of the first line.

I don't think Michael Raffl's proven anything in the NHL, and honestly, I don't think he'll be the 1LW for excessively long. But I'll say this: I'd bet a paycheck that if he's on the first line for 27 more games, he'll put up more than the four points at even strength to surpass Hartnell.

I hate having NHL players in the Olympics,
- johndewar

Same. Absolutely hate it.

but that doesn't stop me from watching it.

Eh, I'll watch it if I'm in front of a TV at a game time but I won't rearrange my schedule for it.

Downie showing any effects today after that hit?

I know he finished the game, but sometimes things can pop up a day later.

Because they stop NHL play during the Olympics right in the middle of the NHL season (the main reason among many that I hate having NHL'ers in the Olympics), I go into full on hockey withdrawal and end up tuning in.

Ohh, nice call. solo cups are 3 3/4 and the cup rim has to fit below the surface so the puck slides in smoothly. I'll have to calculate this just right. PVC pipe that is 3 3/4 that way the rim fits right on top the pipe, then cut slightly larger hole in the board and fit the PVC pipe in.

You know the diamater of solo cups off the top of your head?

They probably make 3 3/4 inch hole saw bits. You might need to get a file if you want the holes to be just a little bit bigger than that. It looks like Home Depot sells 3 7/8 hole saw blades as well. Be sure to predrill the holes with a regular drill bit before using the hole saw.

You'll need this as well to attach the hole saw to: http://www.homedepot.com/...bor-49-56-7240/202327769#

Frankly, I think I'd rather watch old Cops reruns than the ASG. And I don't even like Cops.

The show that is, Mr. PLind.
