Yeah, fans tend to fixate on McGinn and Lauridsen like they are burgeoning prospects who deserve to be up... McGinn b/c he's potted a few goals in the show, and Lauridsen because he's strongly associated with being up during that late run last season.

The fact that they were called up speaks more to the lack of depth in the system, this season and last, than it speaks to their viability as prospects. McGinn and Lauridsen are, more likely than not, going to go the way of Colin Forbes and David Printz.

Gus, on the other hand, is maybe good enough to stick, and needs to see the ice.

I don't know what McGinn can do at this point to improve his skating.

As for Gus, I've been a fan for awhile and it's time for him to play regularly. I suspect he would have been a lineup regular if they had been able to unload a defenseman as most thought they would do earlier this year.

I didnt expect much defensively but he's on pace for 3 goals and 30 points and thats just not good enough. He's not horrible but it was a bad signing at those numbers.

Exactly. If he was a younger guy making $3M/year for 3 years, then I'm okay with it. For a veteran with a track record of good offensive production with his length/term, it's not good enough for me.

I say we trade him for Von Hayes.

Gonna go complainiac here for a post, but one area that bugs me is the powerplay (I know, I'm a real pioneer here, nobody else has complained about this ). I'm not a big fan of the umbrella formation they use, I think it's a significant part of the reason they have trouble keeping the puck in the zone. I'd really prefer keeping a point man at each end of the blueline.

Also, one thing that absolutely drives me nuts is the play where the puck carrier takes the puck up to the blueline, then passes the puck literally directly backwards. I didn't notice it last night, but I've seen it a lot this season and it drives me absolutely crazy! I'm really not the "shout that the TV" type of fan, but everytime I see this I scream uncontrollably. It's absolutely inexplicable why you would stop four skaters at the blueline to let one guy into the zone. It's terrible, I hate it so much. I understand passing the puck back to a skater with momentum, but they take it to the Nth degree and it's just plain stupid!

We would need to throw in 4 more players to make a Von Hayes deal work properly.

We do have an excessive quantity of our Rosehill and Newbury stores. I think something could be done.

I finally saw all of the ending of last night's scrum at the end of the game.

I would have paid hard currency to see Brendan Gallagher go at Ray Emery like that.

I said the same thing last night! OB pointed out that if Razor had been in net both Gallagher and the other little midget in front would have been knocked out cold!

Did you see after that settled and the Flyers were on the ice congratulating Mason? Emery's smile was ear to ear.

I'd be surprised if this is the last we've heard from the Flyers and Brendan Gallagher.

Ok, he enjoys stirring the pot and then, emptying the pot and hitting people over the head with it.

The thing about Emery is that he doesn't fight just goalies. He once beat up Peter Vandermeer (I think that was the Neil Little flying leap brawl) and after he fought Biron, he fought (and didn't do TOO poorly) "tough guy" Andrew Peters.

Also, can we PLEASE somehow put a stop to the "USA! USA!" chants? We only have 1 US-born player on the roster, and he plays for team Canada internationally. It's another way the fan base shows its ignorance.

Brian Propp poked his head in to the radio broadcast booth last night. Bundy and Saunders started talking about his analyst days.

Saunders: "Brian Propp just informed me that if Montreal scores two goals, the game will be tied."

He doesn't even need to score... just need him to show more of that puck-moving they supposedly brought him in for... puck-retrieval in the defensive zone, moving it up quickly, sealing off the boards in the o-zone better, having an appreciable effect on the PP, getting shots through, all the things you would expect an offensive specialist to be able to do. He needs to be leading the team from the back-end, instead of being thoroughly outclassed by 38-year-old Kimmo, who's possession metrics are better across the board.
- Tomahawk

You cannot measure Oliver lauridsen by metrics. Can't wait for that kid to come up. He is better than luke at the very least at this moment. I guarantee

Late in the game yesterday. I could dig it if it was an ironic chant, but I don't give us that much credit.

Was this something to do with them playing Montreal? If so, yes, that is really stupid.

I've been there when that chant goes up after they welcome military guys that are attending the game and that isn't bad. The Service Academies are in town for the Army-Navy game and I hope if that chant did go up, it was for those guys, and not because they are playing a Canadian based hockey team.

Dude that was a Soldier home for the holidays that the Flyers helped to surprise his family. Nothing wrong with having pride in our country.

Nothing wrong with a standing ovation either ...... vs a '' USA, USA'' chant.

You can probably thank Scott Gomez for that play... it's definitely the du jour PP zone-entry scheme right now for a lot of teams.
