I can't believe Phaneuf got 2 games and Seidenberg walked free without even a phone call.

I really (frank)ing hate Shanahan right now.

- twiztedmike

Leafs are 0-1 without Phaneuf in the lineup. This won't help negotiations.

No, they should be held accountable just like the players, GM's and coaches by the league, when you embarrass them by their performance, they will get the message as will their fellow refs.

I think the deal is that when Refs are in the ACC, they are so worried about being 'biased' for the home crowd that they go out and do the opposite and (frank) up all the calls to appear 'fair' when really they are just (frank)ing the Leafs over and over.

They are held accountable. Working less, and getting paid less sends a pretty good message.

Everybody stepped up cause they were without their captain. Nit exactly unprecedented.

Adrenaline only lasts so long...

Was nice to see the entire team skating for once though. Lupul played like he wants the C if Dion gets traded

Not good enough, like other leagues they come out and say the refs blew a call, the league needs to do that, being embarrassed in public is more effective then behind closed doors.

He can do that all he wants.. I'd love him to be too. But we need a captain on the ice not on the LTIR.

In soccer, refs get relegated to officiating in the lower leagues, with correspondingly less pay if they consistently (frank) up.

Maybe they should do the same here, send some of these bums to the ECHL for a while...

1 year ago Calgary still sucked. 1 year before that Calgary still sucked. interestingly, I predict 1 year later Calgary will suck. I also predict that in another year, Calgary will still suck

Without Dion Lupul would be less injured as there would be less silly (frank)ers slapping the puck into his arm from 20 feet

What's everyone's opinion on Clarkson? Still like the signing?

I kinda knew it would be a terrible signing. I mean they bought out Tucker at 3 mil... Why would you sign Clarkson for DOUBLE?
- twiztedmike

I couldn't have been more wrong about his impact....I wasn't expecting 30 goals, but a 20 goal, 40 point season with some tenacious forechecking would be nice.
He is basically about as useful as Mike Brown....without the cool stache.

If Lupul gets healthy for any stretch of time and starts scoring again, they should trade him.

Overpaid. But he will settle into his role and earn the bud on his jersey come playoff time

I'm not arguing this because the Leafs got shafted on plenty of calls, but that LA-Habs game, there was two goalie interference calls that were clear as day not called, it has been atrocious the level of the refs performance.

care to elaborate?
- Dozzer

Where to start...

First of all, Phaneuf is not a stay-at-home defenseman: never was, never will be. While he's improved defensively since the Calgary heydays, he's always going to take chances and pinch when he can.

Liles and Rielly is a disaster waiting to happen. Liles may never have a full-time job again in the NHL (unlikely, but possible he gets sent back down or not traded), so you want that guy mentoring Rielly?

Franson's a waste on the 3rd pairing again. He's underrated physically (he leads the team in hits) and needs to be on the 2nd pairing.

I disagree, I think the D just got out of the way and let Carter have a free good shot
- senstroll

I mean, that's the difference between earlier in the year and now.

Before, when we were getting shelled, the goalies could always see the puck. Now they're getting screened more often.

They do, in a manner of speaking.

Problem is there has been so much turnover with refs. I'd wager here aren't 5 guys redding right now with 10 yrs experience (just a guess though).

Bunch of new refs came in when they went to 2 ref system. Then since then a bunch of veteran guys retired.

There are a lot of inexperienced refs out there, and it shows. But there is little they can do about it, just let them get experience and imrpove.
