It went right through him, that can't happen. had to get that.

The 5 hole is so funny... anytime the goalie stops it the player shot it right at the goalie(bad shot)... If it goes in the goalie is a sieve puck went right through him.......

You mean how the Leafs have looked like a different team since he was out of the lineup?

It might just be that he helps with the whole team defense thing. I think a lot of Leafs fans feel that the real problem is that most of our forwards have no concept of defense.

- Aetherial

I remember during the Maurice/Wilson era, we had a really good d-corps... but the forwards never, ever helped them out. Guys were hung out to dry every night.

yeah.. and bernier let in a bad goal too..

faults on both, not just one.

- Dozzer

why do we have to fault someone...he leafs got outplayed by a better goalie, essentially the thing they have been dong to teams all season.

a bad play here and a bad goal there are going to happen. they only gave up 2 goals. they just couldnt score on the chances. they had enough

I blame Jones

.. but TSN broke it down after the game, said it was not a bad pinch, but he was not hard enough on the bouncing puck to keep it deep, and then stood there wondering what to do when the puck bounced around and went to Carter. Which if you ask me, sounds like a bad pinch.
- vermie22

The pinch itself wasn't bad.

Everything he did on that pinch, however, was.

He's too slow and sloppy to pinch unless he legit has a 5 stride lead on a guy, other than that Ranger will get beat every time. The guy is useless. His most effect plays is when he lays down in the slot, kinda pylon like.

Franson had probably his best game as well.

Said it all along, when they compete with speed and battle for the puck, they are a good team but for some reason they don't want to do that on a consistent basis.

- LeafMan

may be the same thing that was happening during the Sundin era.

Team always stepped it up when he was hurt, because they knew they couldn't count on him to help them out.

Team gets complacent when Phaneuf is playing, because they know he's going to take the hardest competition, and neutralize the other team's top players.

He used to be faster. I guess taking 5 (frank)ing years away from the game takes it's toll, eh?

Rust man it's the rust. I gave him his 10-20 games. Now I see there's no hope. Brutal.

Here's the thing.

The Leafs lost to a better team.

Maybe we outshot them.

But they were the better team. They capitalized on their chances and we didn't.

He's not bad when he's playing the shut-down role. He shouldn't be out in an offensive role, at all though. Bottom pairing PK specialist.

So, The Leafs were a better team last night, and lost. However, usually they are the worst team, and win..

Is that how I am reading your post?

Truth be told........ the Leafs played a really good game last night.

Best game in over a month for sure.

We lost, but they keep playing as they did last night, and they will win the majority of their games.

The better team is the one that wins.

Goalies are part of the team, as are the defensemen that make sure guys don't get second and 3rd chances, or that limit the shooting options, to give the goalies an easier job.

Our defensemen, at some point, stopped limiting good shots, and started screening the goalie.
