guy saw an opening and exploited it. if that hole isn't there, he passes or shoots somewhere else. not absolving Bernier but it's a 2-on-1.
- DoubleDown

When Kessel does that it's a great shot from a goalscorer...When it happens against the Leafs it's the goaltenders fault...

Really?

I see you've been fooled by his hot start to the season.

- Pecafan Fan

You mean how the Leafs have looked like a different team since he was out of the lineup?

It might just be that he helps with the whole team defense thing. I think a lot of Leafs fans feel that the real problem is that most of our forwards have no concept of defense.

I understand the argument that Ranger is being paid peanuts and should be evaluated based on his price and role, and not compared to our better Dmen.

What I don't get is why, when we have to pay JML all but 950k or whatever, do we bother trying to save that when we could just waive Ranger and play Liles, who IMO is a much better Dman.

Or at the very least apply that logic to Fraser, a guy that is a shell of himself from last year.

Both of their caps are more than we save on JML being on the Marlies

Side note: My theory on Fraser is that when Bernier took his number, he also took his toughness (fought Miller) and whatever talent he had while Fraser inherited Schenn's number, slowness, and hockey IQ.

Although they played really well, one problem still was there, they leave the points wide open and it burned them on the PP goal, that has to change.
- LeafMan

I agree, I think the forwards need to play up a little bit more.

like i said it's a 2 on 1 so it's tough for the goalie. he wants to take the shooter but sometimes he cheats on the pass, and that's where you get the openings. i'm not saying it was unstoppable but it's not all on the goalie.

One could argue the leafs where being out played when he was in the lineup but where lucky enough to win most nights when they shouldn't have...

Thank you. Many good goal scorers shoot five hole. But we will ignore that because it went in on Bernier and someone has to take the blame, why it's not Ranger people aren't mad at there I have no idea. Slowest guy on the ice making that pinch...bad decision.

i just dont the prospect of having him anchor the blue line for the next near decade.

that doesnt equal a cup in my mind. which is ultimately the goal.

- Dozzer

I think that he would be a great complimentary piece, but can't do it all himself.... there are very few who can to be honest. Pair him with a guy like Girardi and watch him succeed like a boss

.. but TSN broke it down after the game, said it was not a bad pinch, but he was not hard enough on the bouncing puck to keep it deep, and then stood there wondering what to do when the puck bounced around and went to Carter. Which if you ask me, sounds like a bad pinch.
