not in my mind he isnt.. he is lazy, half hearted.. a brutal leader and look what happens when he was out.. the team played better collectively

there is nothing about phaneuf that changes the outcome of the game last night.. not one damn thing.

move on.

- Dozzer

Lazy and half hearted

Also known as the only player on the team that gives it his all every shift... while playing more than anyone else on the team, against the hardest competition in the league, with one of the best GA/60. Second most hits and blocked shots on the team.

But yea. Lets go with lazy and half hearted.

As for being a brutal leader- I keep forgetting how many people on these boards are in the dressing room during games.

How do you know Phaneuf doesn't block the shot on the PP in the first period, and score a goal on the Leaf's PP?

In short, we got Leaf'd.

And see what happens when RC plays our best players? I want RC to put Gardiner with Phaneuf and Gunnar with Franson, if they can play like they did yesterday.

- peddy-93

Yeah Ranger still looked like poop. Man how many times can he get beat to the outside. The sad thing is he's pushing the guys all the way to the outside but then they still cut around him. I don't get how he does it.

Do you think they honestly played better because he wasnt playing? Its just other players stepped up to fill his role, thats it.

you're starting to get it now. keep going.

Best game the team played as a whole all year, one bad mistake by Ranger but I still think Bernier could have stopped that.

They got out goalied but deserved the win.

Phaneuf who?

edit: Rielly and Gardiner were the best d out there for both teams along with Doughty

- LeafMan

I was thinking the same thing. Dion, certainly did not want the club to respond like they did last night. It might cost him 1 to 1.5 milly if they play that good again next game.

sure it does.. comparing what a 1 million dollar d-man brings to the table with a 7 million dollar one is .. well.. absurd.
- Dozzer

He cost us a goal. That's all that matters. And Phaneuf brings 10x the importance to the table than Ranger, going with that equation Phaneuf should be asking for around 10M.

I've been following the Hawks closely for many years now and I can assure you that although he's got great nights every now and then, he's not consistently good. He's a 3rd line center that can fill in on the 2nd line if need be.
- Pecafan Fan

He is more of a veteran presence for the Leafs, they need that.

Like I said yesterday, this is the same team led by Phaneuf who got blasted 6-0 by Columbus, so the team cannot do much worse without him.

Of course, every team needs a good 3rd line Center who's good defensively. And Bolland fits that role.

But don't ask him, or expect him to be more than that.

Really?

I see you've been fooled by his hot start to the season.

- Pecafan Fan

It's possible. But the team took a turn for the worse the second we lost him.

Yes as a third liner who can fill in at C2 if needed. They also played him on the PP and he was very effective as well.

I'm not here to argue with you Doz. Agree to disagree, I'm a Phaneuf fan and would like to have him signed for around 7 but if not I probably wouldn't cry about it.

I have been calling for this for a few games now, ever since Randy started playing Gardiner a bunch more. Although I'd like Gunnarsson even further down the pairings on a 5-6 with Liles (let's face it, we have to pay the (frank)er anyways so which pairing is irrelevant) then reunite the Rielly-Franson pairing that was present when we were, I dunno, winning?

Id sign him for around 6, but none more than that, personally. If the wants any more, try and move him...his value should be high enough.
