Best game the team played as a whole all year, one bad mistake by Ranger but I still think Bernier could have stopped that.

They got out goalied but deserved the win.

Phaneuf who?

- LeafMan

it is time to move on.

he isnt worth the contract he wants and it will only hamper the team long term

as for all your discussions about phaneuf.. the fact remains..

he is not a top 10 defender who is looking to get paid like a top 5

- Dozzer

Incorrect. He's a top-10 defender looking to get paid what he's worth.

That's as much of a fact as what you wrote.

Long term I'd rather Dion.

This year Markov

thing is, the money SHOULD be spent on the backend...though I agree not necessarily on Dion.
- Colin Dambrauskas

Not many players out there, at RoR's age led their team in scoring AND were credited with being their teams best defensive player.

The Leafs problem is simple. They don't work hard enough, especially the forwards. There is no help for our D.

Last night was a pretty clear demonstration of a team working. Sure LA was on a back to back, but every team has to deal with that.

I don't think spending more money on the D is the answer. That is going to have to happen anyway if we decide to hold on to Franson, Rielly, Gardiner etc. A real good Center who is defensively responsible would be a big boost.

remember... we're not a tanking team anymore.

It's tempting to go for McDavid... but it's not gonna happen.

not in my mind he isnt.. he is lazy, half hearted.. a brutal leader and look what happens when he was out.. the team played better collectively

there is nothing about phaneuf that changes the outcome of the game last night.. not one damn thing.

move on.

Dozz, you gotta remember the cap is going to keep rising, phaneufs 7 mil in a few years will be the equivelant of a 5 mil this year. Remember that.

Agreed.

Bernier really needs to stop that. It's 1-1 at that point. Back breaker.

i dont care about cap constraint at all.

i think he is more of an anchor than an asset

guys watch the way he plays (with half a heart) and mimic it thinking thats the way the game should be played.

when he was out.. the team played better as a team.. which supercedes everything else.

Nah, We have seen Bolland settle down this team on many nights he was in the lineup, almost single handily beat the Pens, a lot of people want to credit Phaneuf but it was Bolland who shut Crosby down.

In short, we got Leaf'd.

And see what happens when RC plays our best players? I want RC to put Gardiner with Phaneuf and Gunnar with Franson, if they can play like they did yesterday.

I've been following the Hawks closely for many years now and I can assure you that although he's got great nights every now and then, he's not consistently good. He's a 3rd line center that can fill in on the 2nd line if need be.

Do you think they honestly played better because he wasnt playing? Its just other players stepped up to fill his role, thats it.

sure it does.. comparing what a 1 million dollar d-man brings to the table with a 7 million dollar one is .. well.. absurd.
