Holy (frank) no wonder we aren't even close to being contenders when he is considered our best dman.
He is a complimentary top pairing dman at best. IMO he should be a 3 man making 6 milly. - Pikey Fan
Should, but isn't, so the solution to fixing a weak D shouldn't be to trade the strongest part of it.
As for a 3man, lets not be silly. This is like the Kessel arguement all over again. |

I think Gunnar is the type who will be undervalued on the trade market and harder to replace than we think.
Not opposed to moving him if the opportunity is right, but I don't think he'd fetch what he's worth to us. - Leeman4Gilmour
He's better suited as a 3rd Dman.
Girardi-Phaneuf
Gunnarsson-Franson
Gardiner-Rielly
In the offseason

The salary cap has turned every hockey fan into an amateur accountant. - Leeman4Gilmour
We're all arm chair GMs to boot.
Leafs overpaid for Clarkson, overpaid for Kessel so might as well over pay for phaneuf too. Since that equation is equaling so many wins!!!
But don't worry the cap will go up guys! |

I felt the same way man, based on how he played last season. But this season, he's horrible. I'm bitter. |

So, how would you explain all those years he put up #1D numbers?
How do you explain just this year alone?
He's a #1D. We can debate what calibre of #1D he is, but to deny that fact is ignorance. |

He's probably a number 1 on quite a few teams in the league.
But not the ones competing for cups.
Still not a good excuse to get rid of him. |

Well if leafs keep him they need to move a forward to make room cap wise to upgrade phaneuf's supporting cast
That d squad sucks |

Nah he just needs to be on the 2nd pair.
Though if Gardiner could play like that every game., life would be much more enjoyable |
