no prob. then don't do the deal and rebuild, what i would prefer, trade away girardi for a young defenseman and a pick, try to trade cally for what buf got for pominville or more (i love cally but it would be the best for the organisation, can always resign him in the offseason) trade MDZ as well, resign stralman, trade brassard for another player with high potential that needs a change of scenery or keep him. then bring up the kids and start building

Especially if this is how the Rangers are going to play the whole year. They can't afford to create 3 holes just to patch one.

And, how are you really patching anything when the statistics, up until this point in their careers, show that Stepan is actually a more offensively productive player. I like Kane alot, but I think we are overrating him here as far as what the trade packages would be. Stepan, MDZ and a 1st would be a fleecing of the Rangers if the Jets could make that deal.

I don't think there is any chance that the Rangers are going to decide to rebuild while they are in the playoff hunt. If they fall out of the playoff race then maybe they become sellers.

But, at the end of the day, it is very dangerous way to manage an organization to make decisions based on snapshot in time where the team isn't playing well. If the Rangers still look this way at the deadline, and are falling out of the race, then you reassess whether you need to acquire assets for your UFAs and which ones you intend to re-sign.

For that price, no thanks. That is a significant overpay, IMO.

Edit: Even in a down year, so far, Derek Stepan is producing at higher clip than Kane. He is average .63 points per game, wherease Kane's average is .53. Stepan has a better PPG average over his career than Kane and is +44 on his career. Not to mention, he plays a more important position. Tell me why the Rangers would give up anything more than Stepan for Kane.

because i think stepan's ceiling is a great 2nd line center who will have a career average of 60 points and kane has a ceiling of a 1st line star that can score at a PPG pace for more than a couple seasons.

stepan's ceiling = bergeron without bergeron's skating, hands, or speed.

kane's ceiling = perry

in my opinion.
