Steckles hit on Crosby was within the rules. No penalty and u know damn well the league reviewed it. And hey no suspension. Pens fans lost their bloody minds over that one. Why is that? Cuz your player got hurt by a hit that didnt need to happen the way it did.

Barefisted would be worse, never said it was right.
Ok tough guy. I'll wear a visored helmet lay on the ice, you put on hockey gloves give me 2 shots one glancing off my helmet and the other square in the chin and i guarandamntee I'll get right up. Just cuz Orpik cant take 2 short punches isnt my fault. How the hell he last this long in hockey with a glass jaw?
Oh ya right.... He skates away from his on ice actions.
Players answer to big hits all the damn time, u watch womans hockey or something?

You want to have your opinion taken seriously, then you make fun of a player who got jumped from behind and had to be taken to the hospital. Which is it? You want to insult the Pens, or you do you want to have your opinion taken seriously? I have an idea, how about you stand there...have someone come up from behind, kick your legs out...let you fall to the pavement and then ill hit you with some ski gloves in the face a couple of times. I love internet tough guys like you....ohhh, I can take a punch...oh, i would get up and walk away...nothing can hurt me...I can take a punch..blah blah blah...I guess its not Cookes fault that Savard can't take a hit right? I mean, I know I would have gotten up from that and not had anything wrong. He must be brittle and a puss. See how ridiculously bad that sounds. You act like Thornton came up from behind, gently grabbed his shirt, laid him down on a set of pillows and then hit him with a pillow in the face twice.

That's where you're wrong.... The Steckel hit was more analogous to the Neal knee compared to the Orpik hit... and your fan base had your panties in a bunch about that play.

Neal and Steckel's hits both took place to unsuspecting players, 100 feet away from the puck.... not on a player who had the puck in his feet due to getting hung out to dry by his Dman.

Kinda like Orpik not responding when challenged because he's a puss.....or your entire team not responding in the playoff fiasco last year.

Comments like this sort of wish Neal did more of a number on Marchand.

Don't recall complaining about the hit all, let me re-read all my posts on the subject..... nope didn't complain. Puck was played albeit inadvenrtainly by Loui
Got caught with his head down. Yes, Orpik could have and probably should have let up. Thats all.

Lucic tries not to catch players unaware, in open ice.
He tends to pancake them along the boards. Note: I said along the boards, not into them. As a rule, but it has happened.

yeah... miller was along the boards! duh!

this is awful. i really do appreciate everyone who can at least attempt to see things without a bias. i dont know when wanting clean play and to have the hitting done between the whistles was all of a sudden shying away from toughness or being pussies.

i love neal. but its impossible to defend that reckless behavior. as someone said, its very analogous to the steckel hit on crosby, and i had a problem with that one. it would be hypocritical to not have a problem with neal's as well. its a shame to say but he deserves more than 5 games. this kind of poop has to stop. i absolutely hate marchand, but he doesnt deserve to be kneed from someone in motion while he is on the ground. nor does orpik deserve to be taken down from behind and punched while sprawled on the ice for delivering a clean but hard hit. seriously, those kind of plays are the wussy actions.

So your the second pens fan that uses the implied threat of punching me personally to make your point, an I'm the internet tough guy? Ok!
One can surmise glass jaw or lucky punch. First punch was glancing blow barely worth mentioning.
Saavy didnt see it coming, n cooke came from the next state to hit him, not unlike steckels hit on Crosby. I wouldn't expect Crosby, Saavy nor Loui to get up from those hits. Funny thing I'm not even defending Thornton. It was stupid he knows it, i know it, you know it. However it was hardly the most vicious act in hockey history that everyone is making out to be.
Here's what prevents this crap from happening... refs actually calling penalties and maintaining control of game and one 10 min misconduct would have stopped it all and I dont mean for Orpik. I'm not saying its the refs fault but if they dont police the game the players will, one way or another. If the roles were reversed and your team had 3 players hurt from questionable acts I'm sure your players would lose their cool too and potentially do something dumb.
It was a poop show from the drop of the puck and deteriorated from there.

Well said. Except the clean hard hit, it was questionable. Loui had his head turned to locate puck when he was hit. Otherwise good post.

I believe we have exhausted this point.
I'm sure we will all meet on Fridays to discuss how Thorntons suspension was too short too long how its biased one way or another.

You act like I said I wanted to find out where you live and fight you...It was used in the same situation as your boy did...all I said is, you act like you are some tough guy and nothing can hurt you...I simply said that if someone came up from behind and did that to you without you expecting it...you arent just getting up and being fine from it...like I said, you want to your opinion to be taken seriously, stop with the glass jaw bs...its a cheap shot, much like your boy took. I like how you know the first blow didnt do any damage, were you the one that was hit? How do you know how hard he was hit? How do you know where he was hit...you don't, you go off a video. You come in here acting like you are the authority on what he did and like its Orpiks fault...

If you watch the reverse angle footage you can see the first punch grazed the helmet n visor. The second one did the damage, was right on left corner of the chin. Right on the button. Orpiks hit was questionable, however i don't believe that is the only reason why he got attacked. The Dupis slash, and Marchand knee probably sent Thornton over the edge. Orpik was handy, he injured Loui and he felt Thorntons wrath. I have never said he deserved what happened. Someone deserved something just not that.

Lol. Good clip. Agreed a lot of Richard plays. Marchand is cleaner player after last incident. Had one of those Matt Cooke moments and decided to play cleaner n not be such a douche. I enjoy some of his antics but he can be too much like LaPierre. Just shut up n play the damn game.

Dupuis slash LOL you Bruin fans are the best. Orpik has a glass jaw, and I guess Duper has a super swing that breaks legs. We know, we know...Its Orpiks fault he made Thornton do that...I mean, all he had to do was fight a goon because of a clean hit.

for as much as i hate marchand, i respect the hell out of loui. i really do have a hard time seeing that hit as that off the mark. still though. that game as a whole was out of hand. the league really needs to start taking control of games, both via the refs in game and with legitimate disciplinary action in response to bullpoop. the whole let the players enforce themselves thing clearly is not working.

Good thing Savard skated with head down....you know, since we are blaming everyone else but the actual person who did it.

You missed the obvious sarcasm I see. I was trying not to agitate the view any further.
My point was it likely wasn't just a single action that caused all of it.
Yes Savard had his head down, so did Lindros, Francis, Crosby, Loui, the list goes on and on.

You obviously missed my sarcasm, obviously Savard wasn't to blame...much like Orpik wasn't the blame, but Thornton decided he was. I am just tired of hearing how it was somehow Orpiks fault because he didn't want to fight after a clean hit.

Wow, i guess i did miss that. My bad.
A fight probably would have prevented it. But who knows how the game would have changed. I honestly believe it was multiple ugly plays that led to Thornton losing it on Orpik. Thornton isn't known for those actions and pursuing people.
That many years in the league as an enforcer, peace keeper etc with no fines or suspensions says that. He just seemed to lose it. You can't say one play makes someone a dirty player etc, history over career does. See Marchment as an example.
