We will need to see a menu to pick out a name for her. Unless we're just going to name her after a drink. Hairy Navel? - akane13
haha no no. Maybe we should stick to the Bruin/Penguin game. |

I believe I said somewhere up the page, that I'm not a fan of huge unnecessary open ice hits.
If this is before Dupis slashed Kelly then I would have said something to the effect of holy christ what a hit, I hope he is ok.
Then upon watching replay I may say wtf was Chara thiniking?, time for the penalty box. I call it as I see it.
If this was after Dupis slash, I would have said good, (frank) him! Serves him right.
Remember this is a borderline legal hit, given your perspective. Grey area for me. - Thornton22

Yeah Maatta had a strong game. I thought Despres has played well since being called up as well. They show flashes of what they are capable of which is an excellent sign for the penguins future. I just hope they continue to grow and don't hit a wall. - kgrpitt
Maata is such a natural. Despres...not so much. Just looks like he's thinking all the time out there, tentative and unsure of himself. Maybe it will come with time, but it's hard not to notice that Maata's not getting his minutes protected even as a 19 year old. Once all the D are back, I expect Despres to head back down.
Letang/Scuderi
Martin/Orpik
Niskanen/Maata
...are clearly the top 6, and there's no reason to keep Despres up as a 7th. |

We may be watching different games because I thought Despres has looked terrific since he was called up. |

I'll bite!
Slewfoot yes sorta(by defintion then yes)...... but if you watch it, Thornton hangs on to Orpik so he doesn't land hard on the ice. He actually protects Orpik on the way down.
Time for you to have a field test, go get a friend who is equal size to you.
Your wear Hockey Gloves and your buddy is bare fisted, now trade punches, one for one.
Who is gonna look worse afterwards?
Christ I can't believe I had to spell that out for you. - Thornton22
protects him then throws two haymakers? So, your protecting him comment doesn't hold water.

When every Dman is back and healthy, if that ever happens, Shero HAS to make a move and deal Niskanen for forward help. It would be a stupid move not to.

There is no reason Orpick should have had to answer for a clean hit , period . The rest is all billpoop , it's stupid to have to answer for playing within the rules , are they going to start hitting people who make good goals now ? |

This is for the bruins fan who keeps sayin thorton was wearin gloves, u lay down on concrete and lift ur head up 2 inches and let me punch u twice with "soft gloves on" . Im pretty sure its not gonna feel good. The subject isnt the orpik hit. Neal did somethin terrible. And thorton did something unforgivible. If hockey players dont want to hit and be hit (legally) then they wouldnt be playin hockey. |

Agree with the rest of you. I think he's been one of their best D since he's returned. There's been a few hiccups, but not many. |

Actually no. I thought he was very seriously injured.
Was it a borderline hit gone bad yes. Did he purposely run him into the buckle with intent to hurt him? No i don't think he did. Fun to watch in hindsight knowing the player recovered. You bet.
Have the nhl on montreal and other teams mentioned that piece of glass and advised that someone will get killed by it? Yes. In the L.A kings game that same night the same thing happened. But the player got up. Would have to search who player was.

It seems you have a hard time reading. I said he "protected him on the way down" jackass. Never mentioned in that quote about him punching him afterwards. My point was the slew foot is a non issue. Not like his legs were kicked out at full speed n left to crash into the ice at high speed. All i was tryin to say.

Steckles hit on Crosby was within the rules. No penalty and u know damn well the league reviewed it. And hey no suspension. Pens fans lost their bloody minds over that one. Why is that? Cuz your player got hurt by a hit that didnt need to happen the way it did.

Barefisted would be worse, never said it was right.
Ok tough guy. I'll wear a visored helmet lay on the ice, you put on hockey gloves give me 2 shots one glancing off my helmet and the other square in the chin and i guarandamntee I'll get right up. Just cuz Orpik cant take 2 short punches isnt my fault. How the hell he last this long in hockey with a glass jaw?
Oh ya right.... He skates away from his on ice actions.
Players answer to big hits all the damn time, u watch womans hockey or something?

So,thornton protected himonthe way down only to throw two punches ... Yep, that makes sense. Think about this for a minute |

In my books kneeing is as bad as it gets. Surprised Neal got 5. What he did was brutal but wasnt vicious. Dumb sure, dangerous yes. Kasparitis and Marchment used to knee eveyone they could. Numerous fights scrums brawls over the years had much more vicious punches then what Thornton dished out. Thornton did wrong. Get over it. Had Orpik not been made out of glass n got up this would be a non-issue. He cant take a few short rights. Oh well.
The Loui pass was behind him. Keep your head up n he skates away. Still borderline hit. Players need to man up to it. Orpik didnt the refs let too much go on both sides, poop got outta hand and Bruins lost 3 players. Pens lost one plus the game.
Oh well life goes on.
I thought Cookes hit was cheap so did cooke in the end. By the rules it was legal at the time. He manned up. Orpik should have too. |

One can only speculate that he wasnt trying to kill him. Otherwise gloves would have been off and he could have wound up n drifted him twice. The intent was to hit him obviously not to k'o him. How could Thornton have known that someone who checks that hard would have a glass jaw. Then again..... he did run away. Maybe he should have known. Did you see it? Watch again objectively.... Thornton holds him up! |

Lucic ran a goalie on open ice...
And Boychuk hunts players down looking for big open ice hits a lot. - rival22
Lucic levelling Miller was funny imo. Goalies shouldn't be allowed to be protected when playing D. Miller, Rask whoever. I understand y they are protected.
Not that i want more lines on the ice but goalies need to be kept within a defined are and no not blueline back.
Johnny Rocket backs up his hits when called upon, Orpik doesnt.
Theres your difference. Einstein |
