I think it's reasonable to ask Brayden Schenn to chip in a goal once in awhile.

It's been 12 games.

- johndewar

It's not even goals and points. He's been invisible during this stretch. His defensive play has always been shaky as well.

At least Couturier is playing good defense to offset scoring droughts.

I'll say it again. I don't dislike Schenn, but my expectations for him have dropped.

Not sure why Gus doesn't play. Also have no idea why Mez is still on this roster.
- stveshdy

The way Gus has played he doesn't deserve to. Mez is on the roster because they can't trade him. Maybe they are playing him so they can put some lipstick on that pig and find a trade partner.

As far as the Blackhawks game the team should have no problem getting up for that game. If Emery plays he has a little extra, beat his old team and the rest win this game to show themselves they are good enough to beat a top team. A win could or at least should go a long way.

If so, then you would not be disappointed in him, eh?

Couturier has had many more flashes than Schenn.
- PhillySportsGuy

Before this recent Downie-driven outburst, Coot's last real flash was in that same Pens series... all that shut-down Malkin stuff.

More like they're saddling up that pig Minecraft-style and taking him over the cliff!

Do you remember Baby Schenn in the PO's against the Pens? Scoring, hitting, agitating? Young players are only going to show it in flashes... until it all comes together and you wonder why you ever doubted them.

Up until a few weeks ago, Couturier was showing nothing, too. Now he's the toast of the town, apparently.

Because points!!!

That said, some folks* have been high on Cou2rier for a long while, even before he made the haters quiet by potting some points. His value is high even without scoring.

Yeah, the criticism has just shifted over to Baby Schenn. Same complaints... don't see the potential... questioning the upside... trade him for Yakupov... yada yada yada.

Lotta straw man up in here.

I think it's reasonable for a guy getting Top 6 minutes chip in with a goal more than once every 12 games or so.

Do you believe the Flyers are a playoff team?
- stveshdy

I believe they are a bubble team. As of right now, if they win their next game, they are tied with the 8 seed.

#2 center. 25-35 goals. 60-70 points.

Edit: this is what I was hoping he would BECOME. Not what I think he should be now.

Chipping in more consistently for a guy that was the toast of the WHL and Canadian Junior hockey that has over 100 NHL games under his belt.

I think that's pretty reasonable.

But Couturier has always been a good defensive player. He contributes in other areas. Schenn will be physical, but if he's not scoring, he's not doing much of anything.

B Schenn didn't look good at all last night either. Turnovers, bad positioning, chasing the play. Couts looked miles ahead of him last night.

My penciled in core of this team would be Giroux, Voracek, Couturier, Read, and Mason. I would like to see Laughton and Morin join this list, but they have to earn their stripes with the big club first.

Everyone else is available for the right price. Same goes for re-signing them. If they want too much, let them walk. Vets like Vinny and Hartnell are a necessity, we can't have all young players on our team.

What I noticed when I typed out my team core was the lack of a defenceman on that list. If it costs us the Schenns, Simmonds, Laughton, or anyone else to grab a decent #1 defenceman, then so be it.

Jay Rosehill plays 4th line minutes: He's the reason the Flyers lost.

2nd line player doesn't score in 12 games: Meh.

I agree with the bottom, but Byfuglien is not a #1 to me, for the record.

Essentially, yes. However, I expected Schenn to be an adequate defender. I understand he's young, but he hasn't really gotten much better in that department yet.
