SO it's official...

the thread's turned on Giroux.

It only took about 90 games from that amazing Penguins series.

Does anyone think that there might be a chance that this is just an off year for 28?
Next season can he emerge as the young star we all thought and put up the first 100 point season since the 1995-1996 season?

He wouldn't have got near Malkin money and Malkin scored 109 points in 75 games in his last full season, so you'll have to define break the bank.

If a player likes Giroux wants the security of a long term deal a year in advance then Homer needs to insist on them taking less money. Otherwise it would be smart to wait until they have continued to keep performing before signing a massive deal, especially when the player is still an RFA.

If Giroux scored 93 points this year, do you know how many teams would lineup to give him ridiculous offers?

As it should have from day one, game one.

The worst thing Peter Laviolette ever said was calling him the "best player in the world'"

I still have confidence in his ability. Just need him to play better. Superstars/Elite players are held at a different standard.

I think he'll do better when the defenseman get better. The entire offense is bad. It's not just him underachieving. Watch how deep the forwards have to go in their own zone to help the defenseman.

That was nothing more than playoff gamesmanship. It never should've been taken literally.

He would still have been an RFA. If he scored 93 then the Flyers could have happily matched any offer.

And how many teams made ridiculous offers to Pietrangelo?

It's less about the players and the Flyers fans then the way it's used in the media and by opposing fans.

You don't lay that out there and not expect it to follow a player around. He put Giroux in the unenviable position of having to live up to it or have it mock him for his career.

I think Lavi said "He's the best player in the world right now"

And to be fair he was playing like the best player in the world at that point.

I certainly hope so. But this is two down years in a row. I dont really care that he averaged a point a game last season......It when he gets the points that matter to me. Feasting on bad teams and getting mop up points (at least that is how it seemed) doesn't get it done for me.

I never thought he was a 8 million dollar player. He signed the contract so now he needs to start living up to it. But sadly, I see him as a 5 million dollar player who will never be able to live up to the level that his salary demands.

And right now, his play is COMPLETELY in line with his current salary. He is playing like a 3.5 million dollar player, who happens to be underachieving at even that rate.

I dont know what is wrong with him...we have all seen him play much better than he has been for long stretches of the last two seasons.

I sincerely hope it is because he is hurt.
