Hawks have five goalies under contract. Two of them(#1 & - Beaver-Warrior#2) are now on the shelf. #3 & #4 are now with the big club and #5 is in Rockford. The Hawks need a warm body down in Rockford IMO.
Indeed. My bet is that Hannu Toivonen is brought into Rockford on a PTO. |

Lane Kiffin was recruiting him to come to Tenn..but Jeffery insisted on going to SC..Kiffin told him if he went to SC he would end up pumping gas for a living...oops.. |

It should be noted that DiPietro did play for Carolina's AHL team earlier this season. He didn't do too well in his short stay there.
I wouldn't be surprised if Toivonen is given a PTO to fill out the goaltending tandem in Rockford this week. - EKolb13
I do recall reading about him being signed by them last fall, but had no idea how that worked out. Then this would sound like a "no". It's too bad, because Dipietro could have been a very good netminder with a long NHL career had he not been derailed by injuries.
But getting a goalie who can't play wouldn't be hard. (Hell, I would drop what I'm doing and play for the league minimum if they want to sign another guy who can't play. lol) I would hate to think that years from now we look back on this year and say that the ill-advised Bulin signing cost the team a possible Cup... SB needs to work his magic and do something.
And isn't Toivonen just another journeyman guy who's proven nothing except that he can't stick on the NHL level?

If they get a true backup, Simpson would go back down to Rockford |

The Hawks had a decent pp during the 2010 run - big timely pp goals - came up huge during the 2010 cup run. In the playoffs against Phoenix, in the pivotal game 6. the hawks give up a pp goal to phoenix in the 2nd period to go down 1-0. A few mins later, Hawks have a chance, but the pp failed miserably. And that was all she wrote. Different game if the Hawks capitalize. - Topshelf2010
You are micro "managing"....Hawks lose to Detroit if they didn't hit the post so many times too....
Always a certain set of circumstances matter.
By the numbers the team with a top 5 PP has only won the Cup one time recently and that was awhile ago....Detroit.
So if I had to pick I would want the better penalty kill if I couldn't have both.
Ideally I would want both to be top 10.

Yep.
He's currently playing in Toledo and was brought in by Toledo to replace Carruth when he was recalled to Rockford a few weeks ago. Toivonen is not my ideal choice, but he's sort of in the system right now, and has some familiarity with the organization. |

A question, why was Versteeg brought in? Offense? The Hawks offense was already doing fine. The Hawks needed a backup goalie and help on the 3rd and 4th line and pk. Versteeg's deal was not bad. But in Versteeg, you know what you are getting (some offense with some questionable decision making) with limited upside and a slight gamble that he did not lose it step with the knee injury. - Topshelf2010
Verg good question...So good and you are not the only one asking I am going to address this is tomorrow's Al's Shots.
Short answer is no, not for his offense necessarily, and it was not an either or situation.

I get a kick out of reading comments in pre-game blogs of opposing teams referring to us as band wagoners.
2 things stand out for me especially:
--there usually isn't a whole lot of comments to read through suggesting that they don't have a whole lot of ardent fans to begin with (band wagoner or otherwise)
--I have been a Hawks fan longer than their team has been in existence. - 67hawks
Agree with you. With the price increase our neighboring season ticket holders have been unloading a lot of seats. A sampling of recent comments I have overheard....
1) At the Anaheim game when they saw the "D" Duck's logo.... "Look, they left up the Dallas logo from the last game - see the D!"
2) From a Blues game earlier in the year "Why is the goalie skating off? Oh, a penalty.... That must be new."
3) From the Toronto game... "Where's Bolland? She asks 3 times. Answered by everyone "TRADED".... She answers " No he wasn't. They just showed him on the screen up there". This was after the tribute.
After reading the Fifth Feather's round up about the Hawks crowd in Nashville a few weeks ago it sounds like there is a new element that really makes us look terrible on the road. Cheering during the anthem. Fights and taunting. Makes us look like Wings fans.

Double
It just didn't make long term sense to trade for a back up. |

I'm not too worried. I still think that 2-3 weeks isn't long enough to make a move for another goalie. |

Eh... Living on the West Coast I attend a lot of Hawks games out here & that kind of stuff is everywhere.. PHX fans are by far the most ignorant among the various places I've been to.. LA is a close second. Love going to games in ANA though because it is MILF CENTRAL and the fans are very nice. |

Hmmm, 2 to 3 weeks.
Me thinks not.
How about more like double that amount of time (a month to month-and-a-half)?
As I think everyone knows, a "pull" or strain is actually tearing of the muscle. Groin injuries (of the severity of Crawford's where he could not get up under his own power) take a LONNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG time to heal properly.
Unless of course Q or Kitch or Kompon are taking turns on an hourly basis providing treatment to the affected area . . .

This is not directed at you Al, but saw yesterday many advocating talking to Carolina about Anton Khudobinn who they have been offering around with far too high a price tag as a return, with many desparate teams saying no….
So Hawk fans, you want Bowman to overpay for Khudobinn and when CC is ready to return, you now have the same situation Carolina is in … a thrid goaltender who you lose if you try and send him down. Raanta can move down, but the 3rd goalie CAP hit still stands as an unecessary $ waste.
Trade for him, and then take the lesser returns that teams like the Isles offer when CC returns?
Sometimes it's about wading the storm, and not rushing for hep from the outside, no matter what that does to the gusy in the goalmouth. - wiz1901
My thinking is the storm can be waited out with a journey backup who could play 2-4 games depending.
Those guys are minimum salary players basically.
