I get a kick out of reading comments in pre-game blogs of opposing teams referring to us as band wagoners.
2 things stand out for me especially:
--there usually isn't a whole lot of comments to read through suggesting that they don't have a whole lot of ardent fans to begin with (band wagoner or otherwise)
--I have been a Hawks fan longer than their team has been in existence.

Agreed, a real cheap guy is no problem. An expensive, starter type would be more difficult. But I don't think Crow will be out long; maybe they'll get a cheap back-up for him and send Raanta down.
- mohel

Hawks don't need a starter type. They have Crawford at $6 mil for the next few years. IMO they need either an established vet backup, or a reclimation project ala Emery. At the time Razor was an unknown, and came back to form in Chicago. Mason was a cast off in Columbus, is doing good in Philly. Thomas came back and is a shell of his former self in Florida. Question is, are there any reclimation projects out there? I am curious about Dipietro on a 1 year league minimum deal. If he doesnt work out, send him to the ECHL when Crawford comes back. The Hawks need their version of Harding in Minnesota. can steal games, but not a true #1

Stealing Nabokov off of re-entry waivers from the Wings wasn't so bad of a move either.

Snow got a good goalie for the league minimum for the rest of that season, and gave the Wings the shaft in the process.

Anyone heard anything on the severity of Crawford's injury and how long he might be out?

Do we know if it's a knee or a groin?

- As_I_See_It

It is groin, but that's all the help we are giving up for your fantasy team, lol.

To put it a different way Tallon got all he could get and had to eat half the salary for a player he resigned originally.

If the goalies stay on LTIR they can acquire a replacement without cap consequences I believe.

The Versteeg deal was one Bowman couldn't pass as neither of the two youngsters were going to play in Chicago.

This is not directed at you Al, but saw yesterday many advocating talking to Carolina about Anton Khudobinn who they have been offering around with far too high a price tag as a return, with many desparate teams saying no….

So Hawk fans, you want Bowman to overpay for Khudobinn and when CC is ready to return, you now have the same situation Carolina is in … a thrid goaltender who you lose if you try and send him down. Raanta can move down, but the 3rd goalie CAP hit still stands as an unecessary $ waste.

Trade for him, and then take the lesser returns that teams like the Isles offer when CC returns?

Sometimes it's about wading the storm, and not rushing for hep from the outside, no matter what that does to the gusy in the goalmouth.

Why he doesn't have any interest in a three zone game.

There has to be 6 or 7 fat guys somewhere who could a better job than the tubbies on the Bear's d-line. I would release every last one of them. Its not like anyone else could be worse.

What?

They lost theri DT early and all of the rest is futile patchwork.

Dipietro would definitely be a reclamation project. Hasn't it been, what, 5 years since he's played more or less healthy through a full NHL season? Not that I know the answer, except that it's not Khabby, and we still don't know how long CC is out. Q said "not too serious", whatever that means...

It should be noted that DiPietro did play for Carolina's AHL team earlier this season. He didn't do too well in his short stay there.

I wouldn't be surprised if Toivonen is given a PTO to fill out the goaltending tandem in Rockford this week.

Not sure who remembers Terry Ruskowski, but he was the nicest professional athlete I ever had the pleasure of meeting.
- Elbows15

Was at the Bismark Hotel for the press conference announcing his signing, and had a lengthy draft conderence with Pulford.

Terry and his Ms Dallas wife kept the thing from starting on time by a long time, as they were upstairs but late.

Nice guy, eh?

I was once at a Wolves Aeros game and freind wo played for the Aeroes had me escorted to the visitor dressing room area to "pick him up" and coach ruskowski was out of his mind crazy angry at his teams losing efforts against the Wolves, so much so I didn't need to get close to the open door to hear him.

When my friend came out, he said, "Yeah, his usual reaction when we play badly."

No. It wouldn't make sense to me to trade for Khudobin, or Peters for that matter. I wouldn't mind Bowman signing some goalie with a little NHL experience to a two way deal for the rest of the season in order to have a little more depth at the position.

I wonder if our goalies weren't taught be on their PHUCK'N KNEES all the time if their groins would hold up better.

Crawford's groin might be in better shape if Q didn't have to depend on him so much.

Hroin pulls take forever to heal, and for a goalie, you can't rush him back without a lot of strengthening first, or you risk reinjury. This is likely early February.

Is this an opportunity for Huet to resurrect his NHL career? Come in at league minimum, get back to being the goalie he could be, and putting behind his past experience here.

In terms of experienced, cheap goalies, he fits the bill.

The highlighted makes sense to me. As for the speculation for a early February return, I hope it doesn't come to that.

I'm thinking that Huet has got to be on the same level as Khabby at this point, or worse.

I say pass on the Huet idea.

Hawks have five goalies under contract. Two of them(#1 & #2) are now on the shelf. #3 & #4 are now with the big club and #5 is in Rockford. The Hawks need a warm body down in Rockford IMO.
