Not necessarily directed at you, it is just this "UH OH!" tone every game worrying about some guy. Thank God players don't think that way. All players understand the risks they take each game and are equally vulnerable to hard hits and collisions with every player on the ice.
Obviously some guys are more physical than others, but if you are a player, you type cast that guy and expect certain things out of them. You don't sit up nights worrying about it, or stare around on the ice like a paranoid little girl.
I am equally shocked that so many here are shocked that Dallas wants its team to play with grit, since they are out talented most nights of the week. Are they supposed to be nice guys and let people walk all over them. When I play against younger faster players, I do my best to slow them down and let them know I am around. Anything I can do to get them off their game. That is just competition.
The blackhawks can care less about running around and racking up body checks, they rack up goals. And they win lots of game. - TrueGrit
TG, why cant the Hawks hit people AND score goals, AND win games? I dont understand why it is so taboo to suggest that the Hawks should hit someone once in awhile.
I know, i know, literally speaking...they do hit. Im just saying, when guys agitate and do their jobs on other teams, why is it so wrong to build a hatred for the PLAYER? (Roussell and Burrows might be nice guys off the ice ) And WANT to see some retaliation? Sure it wont stop the guy from being a jerk, but it would be nice to see
EDIT: it would be nice and ENTERTAINING to see. Its all about entertainment. |

I wouldnt mind Roussell on the Hawks roster... - BlazinMike
Just so no to anymore Frenchman....the last one was intolerable and this one a scumbag.
And no, he isn't just doing what Shaw does. Taunting the chicago crowd was a punk move |

Not much of a chance he would end up with the Hawks, im just saying if a player of the same mind set and physical abilities as Roussell was named Johnson and played for the Hawks i wouldnt mind it. |

I know its only been a short sample, but i love our 3rd line right now with Saad Shaw and Morin. I think its INFINITELY more impressive looking than whatever Brookbank-infected 3rd line we've been rollin out lately. Combine that with the superb 4th line we've had all year, our always deadly top 2 lines, add in the return of Bickell....and its just absolutely not fair. |

When Bickell is back I wouldn't mind seeing Morin on the 4th line and Bollig on the bench. |

That is a very good possibility as well and id totally be fine with that lineup. My thinking was this though, and idk if im right but its just an idea....Putting Bickell on a "4th" line might light a fire under his ass to get him going right off the bat when he returns. He wasnt producing on the 3rd line, much less the top line, earlier in the season. Id love to see him get some motivation and some goal scoring touch instantly when he returns, and that way u could keep the bit of chemistry you've started with Saad - Shaw - Morin, and i really think a line with Bickell - Kruger - Smith would be just as good as anyone elses 3rd line anyways. Even if only for a short while, maybe that would get Bickell goin and also he could somewhat replace the physical presence u get from Bollig. |

As he should...... Because the ol hidden secret here is.......Bollig's kind of a awful fighter. He rarely wins. He won his last won against Barch and celebrated like holy hell because it's been so long. On the circus trip McGratton handed him his head. Bollig's come a long way from last year. I suggest he continue on improving those skills, because his fighting skills, as much as the meathead crowd might like it....well, Day ain't uh so good. - yahoodi
True and the tip off is how many times the big guys like Bollig get hit...Roussel falls into the same category he takes too many punches too.
They can wind up like Ben Eager and out of the league...Concussions happen more easily over time.
Hawks steamroll Stars 6-2.

Rinaldo? Really. Marchand and Cooke?
There is not much of a difference between the Shaw and Rousell. Both know they have to agitate and be aggressive or they are dime a dozen guys. Those are facts....
As I reread...Gallagher? You my friend are all over the map.
My original statement stands. - TrueGrit
I don't think so. Gallagher is an agitator and is one end of the spectrum. He hits and trash talks. Shaw and Rinaldo are much closer to that end than a slew footing jag off like Roussell. The other end of the spectrum would be the Lemieux types - Roussell is in that mold. |

Yep, there might only be a limited number of bullets in the chamber. If you're good enough to play, you try to take fewer punches. Bollig is getting good enough to play a real role and is trying to take fewer punches.
BTW, nice article, Al. |

I am reminded here of Dennis Rodman. While currently an international diplomat, he used to play a little basketball (for those who hate basketball or are younger than dirt). Early in his career, while on the Pistons, I absolutely hated the guy. I thought he was the dirtiest player in the league and should have been kicked out. Later he came to the Bulls and helped them win three titles. During that portion of his career, I admired his ability to get under the skin of the other team (especially Alonzo Mourning). The only thing that changed in reality was his uniform. Point-of-view does a lot to change perspective.

That is a great one. If it was based on team need - for this roster it would be Shaw. For 2010 it would be Saad.
That 2010 team had plenty of gritty forwards. This team, without Shaw, definitely misses that kind of grit.
If it was just head to head it would always be Saad. His ceiling is much higher.

Come on boys, this obsession with Roussel. He is doing what Shaw does. Similar game. Right now a little more edgy, but for goodness sake, I see all this macho red ass request, then when you see a guy who plays on that edge, creating a niche for himself...people whine about him?
Sorry guys, which is it? I know he is not on OUR team, but he is the exact Steve Ott type that so many get on their knees for. - TrueGrit
This is bang on. Great post. As a side note, I don't know how good Eakin is in most games for the Stars, but against the Hawks that guy is a hell of a player, he'd look great in the red, white and black. |
