And most of them part of the God-awful 28 powerplay goals against.

Dion still has the lowest Ga/20 of ANY D-man in the league 5 on 5.

That to me says that the systems for PK need tweaking, and fast.

I think his play has steadily declined and probably his confidence too. Send in to the Wjr's and see if he comes back fresh and confident. If not then maybe the WHL is the best spot for him. It's all about protecting his confidence right now.

I'm a huge advocate of giving guys at least two years (unless they're elite level, as in Crosby level) in juniors/AHL before bringing them up. Especially with D.

He's doing fine. Every night is against the best players of every team. He plays physical and can add some offense. I wanna see the 5 on 5 stats if anyone has time to look that up for other top D in the league. If Leafs don't resign Dion, they're (franked).
- iTOLDu

if the cap is 71 million and you can sign dion for 7..that good value, esp if it goes to 80 like mentioned the next season.

i suspect it will cost more that we know the hard numbers though which sucks.

I have a hard time saying move Dion without knowing the return value..it would have to be very very good otherwise whats the point

thats the thing.. there isnt many

i would rather cut him loose.. sign a couple guys like orpik and mitchell for the same money phaneuf would cost (and only be 3 or 4 years) to keep things stable while the kids develop and go from there.

- Dozzer

Those are guys you sign to play with him not replace him.

Penalty Killing sucks for the goals against.

At 5 on 5 he's been on the ice for 14 .....fewest on the D. Considering he lines up against the other teams top lines it's a stat in his favour.

The PK needs to be better though ...and he is a part of the problem right now.

- The Law

What site are you using? The site I was using said he's only been on the 9 goals against 5 on 5

It should probably also be mentioned that a huge portion of Franson's GA came while on the ice with Rielly. They were playing them together a lot at the beginning of the year. His pace is much closer to the rest of the D while not with Rielly.
- prock

Absolutely. Leafs need a steady stay at home guy to pair with Gardiner so they can slide Franson back with Fraser. Gotta hope those two could find there mojo in the 3rd pairing again.

I see why he didnt go back down to JR though. He's too good for it. Does offer anything anymore.

so you have to fight every time u lay a good hit?

thats not hockey, thats bullpoop.

and rosehill is a bum, i know, we had him on our team, hes good for nothing but cheap shots and fighting.

if thats the NHL shanny wants, then by all means, give thornton 5-10 games. if he has any want to clean this up, give 25 games or bye for the season.

thats my take, not saying its the right one, just how i see it.

- big_dion

that drives me nuts. and it's especially the case when you play the Bruins. if you put a good lick on them, they go into complete (frank)ing hysterics. seems to be the new thing though. teams feel the need to avenge clean hits.

Dion hate... never ends.
- Not_Stee

I think the guy isn't far from being in the Norris conversation this year. Putting up pretty good points, and an absolute rock on D. I wouldn't say I'd make him a finalist if it were discussed now, but he'd be mentioned.

And people still bash him.

This is why I said maybe next year one of Percy or Granberg (maybe both) will be on the D, they will have that year in the AHL, Percy had a full run in Junior and Granberg played against older players in Sweden and the World's, he is now getting acclimated to N. America sized ice.

Nhl.com ....and actually you might be right. It only shows Total GA (32) and PPGA (18) ...difference of 14. But if he's been on the ice for 5 SH GA then 9 would be right.

then you are not living in the NHL reality.. Top players, whether you think they are or not are going to get paid well.

Yeah I think right at 7mill is a good number. It will be a steal when the cap hits 80. Like I said, invest another 4-5 into Girardi in the offseason and people will be very happy that Phaneuf was signed.

...were awful, and not even comparable to Dion. Neither of them knew where their end of the rink was.
