James Mìrtle @mirtle
The mindboggling thing for Toronto is its 5-on-5 goals against and save percentage are actually better during their 17-game slide! - Fruitcakenipple

“You look at Thornton, he had a job to do and Orpik took a guy out early and wouldn’t answer the bell,” Rosehill said. (Jay Rosehill)
and that statement alone is the reason why we better get used to these incidents, because they're not going away any time soon. - DoubleDown
Suspend Rosehill for a game just for being stupid. |

so you have to fight every time u lay a good hit?
thats not hockey, thats bullpoop.
and rosehill is a bum, i know, we had him on our team, hes good for nothing but cheap shots and fighting.
if thats the NHL shanny wants, then by all means, give thornton 5-10 games. if he has any want to clean this up, give 25 games or bye for the season.
thats my take, not saying its the right one, just how i see it. - big_dion
Looked like he barely hit Orpik to me. Seemed like a lot of BS, getting the stretcher out for that.. Over done if you ask me. But what do I know. |

What about top 30? that would be the definition. - The Law
He falls somewhere between 10-15 IMO. And really all those players are really close. There's only a few that truly separate themselves from him. Doughty, Chara, Subban, Keith, Petriangelo, Weber are the names that come to mind that are in a different class but not many more. |

All this phaneuf hate is ridiculous. The guy is worth 7 mil, and 3 seasons from now 7 mill will be a discount. - Bigzby
Not so much hate as I think people just view what a top d should be in certain areas. I believe as a package he's is undoubted number 1 in this league. With all players you need a balance his partner out. Take kessel for instance great goal scorer, probably couldn't do it with bozak and Orr as his line mates. |

the fact is i look at this leafs lineup and see what i saw in 2001-2002.. a good team that isnt quite good enough.
one HUGE difference tho
they are far younger... the offensive talent is in place but the D is just not up to snuff. now that the forwards are pretty much all under contract its time to rebuild this D properly.. which means not over paying for ANYONE
even if it hurts over the next couple seasons it will be worth it in 3 or 4 years.
if its done right.. we are looking at a leafs team who will have its core all around the age of 30 when they are truly ready to compete.
this is what Nonis should be looking at.. guys like phaneuf, and franson do not bring enough to the table for the salaries they will command.. so move them.
we waited years for the franchise to be rebuilt.. lets not set it back half a decade by making the same mistakes that were made 11-12 years ago. |

Then enjoy 5 plus years of lackadaisical play, trust me, you will feel differently shortly after he signs. |

Made me laugh last night with Ian Mendes, saying MacArthur is the greatest value UFA signing, someone pointed out Raymond, his response "Raymond was a tryout player" I responded to him, "Was Raymond not a UFA signing? Then he was signed as a UFA" Some of these MSM are as thick as bricks. - LeafMan

Btw.
2 qaulity dmen will cost more than Phaneuf. Average dmen will now be asking for 4-5m deals. See guys like Wideman, Carle, Wisniewski. All make 5+ |

You can hit someone in the right spot and they will be KO'd, force of the blow can be secondary to the location of the punch. |

and then you have an equal(actually, possibly harder) force whacking him from the opposite direction when his helmet hits the ice. That's a lot of back-and-forth for the brain to be doing. |

rather nonis start a complete rebuild of the D while the forward core is still young enough to endure it without becoming old men themselves |
