does not belong in the NHL
NHL offense / WHL defense - Dozzer
to me, the biggest problem for Rielly is having nobody of high quality playing with him to ease him in.
for example: Bruins - Chara would play a lot with Hamilton when he first started playing, not sure how it works not, but i do remember that.

il take nashville's #1 d man
webbbbby - big_dion
they're in deep poop right now.
how Trotz still has a job is a testament to how little people care about hockey there. i cannot imagine any other team in any other market in any other sport where a guy can have one playoff series win in 15 years and still have a job.

When you play 25 minutes, you're bound to get tired going up against top players every game.
Not too many players can play those minutes against that competition with someone like gunnar as their partner and not get gassed. - jbold
Exactly!
And no sense paying Phaneuf like a player who can handle 23+ minutes.
He simply cant.
Which is why is not and shouldnt be our number 1 dman. |

I also worry about complacency if a new deal is signed, I see it from him, mark my words. - LeafMan
yeah.. its time to walk away from phaneuf.. if he is willing to sign for 2 maybe 3 years then okay.. but that wont be the case. |

Not being sheltered with a solid vet partner but with the system the Leafs are using, it is not conducive for young defenceman starting out. |

Which is why you need a top pairing partner to play with him like every other number 1 Dman in the league has.. |

The weakest current playoff team in the East is on pace for 82 points. In the West? It's Vancouver with 102. |

True.

He's a number 2. |

If thats the case, than San Jose doesnt have a number 1dman.
And theyre doing just fine.
Neither does NYR, Anahiem, Carolina, Colorado, Dallas, Detroit, New jersey, Pheonix, Pittsburgh, Tampa, Vancouver, or Washington. |

Look at Phaneuf numbers vs Shea numbers they were pretty comparable this year. |

with one major difference... weber can effectively shut a guy down and clear the zone
phaneuf not so much
dont get me wrong.. phaneuf is a 5 million dollar secondary guy easily.. but a top d-man in the league? nope.. i wouldnt even put him top 10 |

For me it is not a question if he is a number one D, I just don't like the way he plays, I don't like the effort and for 7 mil plus D, that is not good enough for me. |

So why isn't he doing it now then or last year for that matter. He's has dropped since he lost his all star partner. On a better defensive team I might add. |

I'm late for HB Breakfast but did back read a bit...after your efforts Dozz, I'm surprised no one congratulated Morrow on his 4rd goal of the season - perhaps when he scores his 5st...

Put him with a guy that can actually play top pairing d and he's not getting exhausted every night. Honestly I don't know what you expect one person to do with his supporting cast. |
