The Problem with the Leafs is they haven't been able to score high end talent the other teams missed on like Detroit has for years. Though I've always said if Detroit knew how good some of these guys were why would their own scouts pass over guys 5-6 times.

There are some guys like Verhaege, Brown & Gauthier who could end up being really good or nothing at all. Even if they are really good they're probably 2-3 years away so for the immediate future it's not looking great for forward prospects.

Over the years Toronto has been good at finding value in Defencemen and Goalies. It's their forwards they've always seemed to be weak at finding value regardless of the round.

They've done ok outside of the first couple of rounds. Guys like Tomas Kaberle, Matt Frattin, Kyle Wellwood, Sean Thorton, Ian White, Anton Stralman, Danny Markov & Sergei Berezin were all taken 100 or later.

Some of these guys were really good and some were ok over their careers but it's rare to see an elite level player come out of the Leafs draft. We have a couple now in Kadri and Reilly but that's because we were drafting in the top 10.

I don't know if it's a development issue in the minors or a scouting issue as a whole but it's something they need to figure out. While we are in a better position than we were the last 5-10 years being stocked with 3rd line talent won't win us a cup anytime soon.

I'm not saying we haven't found any decent guys in the later round. I'm just saying we have got a elite superstar like some have found. Not many team have found people that later though either.
