they actually improved with the depth they got for gay. plus gay's contract was too big for what he brings, and the raps basically have 2 other guys who do the same job as him but more consistently and who are younger, cheaper, and have more upside

Realistically, this is the closest to the Bertuzzi incident we've seen. Premeditated, he tried to fight him early, approaches from behind, slew foots him to the face, and punches him with enough force (add in the fact that there is resistance from the ice against the back of the head, so the head absorbed all of the impact), knocks Orpik unconscious. This is what needs to be out of the NHL. This is the NHLs chance to take a stand from this ever happening again.

I think if you want to get this poop out of the game, you have to start making th in-game punishment harsher. Neal's knee to head? Out of the game, 10 minute pp no matter how many goals.
All slashes? 5 mins. Thornton's bs? You play short the rest of the game.
Harsher in-game penalties...then you'll see that stuff disappear. A suspension is obviously not a deterrent. And it's obviously less of one with Shanahan. But I can't help but think the NHL wants to make sure they keep this stuff in the game.

Meh, he slew foots him but slowly lowers him to the ice, which in turn ( I think ) gets Thorton even madder knowing that he didn't hurt him. Gives him a couple female dog slaps - probably get 15-20 games but was Orprik faking? I mean my mom coulda taken those shots and still got up and gave Thorton a couple whacks with the wooden spoon.
