Yup, what Neal has demonstrated is a lack of quick thought. He sees a guy that he doesn't like down in a vulnerable position, and his instinct is to hurt him rather than avoid him. It's not so much a conscious action, just a reflex one. Which makes it worse IMO - lumlums

Something very very bad is going to happen in the NHL one day, and judging by the way things are going, its going to be sooner rather than later.
Someone is going to get killed.
Sad to say it, but its the course that this train known as the NHL express is on. - faceto27
already been was a few in the old days, and it's happened in Europe and other leagues.
Don Sanderson a few years ago in the OHA.
only a matter of time in NHL. honestly the medical staff on hand is really the only reason it hasn't happened in modern era |

North of 10 games, for Thornton too for sure. But Bertuzzi? He took his shift with the plan that he would seek out Steve Moore and jump the little guy and ended up intentionally slamming his face into the ice from behind.
Thornton, although I agree he was seeking vengeance for the hit on Eriksson did this during a scrum that resulted from his teammate intentionally getting kneed in the head. It was more of a 'in the heat of battle' thing and I don't believe he intended to slam Orpik's head into the ice. - 1979AD
he intended to punch him in the face while he was lying helpless on the ice. That's enough.

Is this before or after the first punch? - faceto27
it sounds like a wrong place at the wrong time kind of thing, like the Stanchion hockey play. If thornton had punched Oprik in any other location on the ice, he would never had hit his head on the ice. |

Most of the bruins have tunnel rage vision. He probably had no clue that Oprik was on the ice. |

Enough to equate it to the Bertuzzi mugging? I disagree, but we'll see what Banahan thinks. |

From now on when a Bruin has deemed you worthy of their Justice, you will be held up right by a Ref or another Bruin if a Ref is not available at center ice. This way Justice can be served and no one can be hurt by the rink. |

I think that when his reflex is to hurt rather than avoid, it says a lot about him... |

Dumping your highest paid player for spare parts would make it seem like that. In reality, I bet they get better without Gay. |

I tend to agree. And because I feel he did it cause it was Marchand, then its a slam dunk case for saying, he did it deliberately.
Therefore, as bad as Thornton's punching of Orpik was, I think Neal's is a grossly dirty play.
Thats its Marchand, is really irrelevant.
Neal should have gotten over 10 games. - faceto27
(frank) that, Neal should have got a hero biscuit |

I just read the tsn article, it mentions that also.. Gay was the leading scorer, but was inefficient..others may end up doing better, so they might be better off
sound like a Toronto'esq tank formula to a tee |

(frank) Thornton and his "remorse." That's just lip service and damage control after the fact because he knows he's in deep. That BS was premeditated and complete garbage.
Thornton is the perfect douche bag for Shanny to make an example of and should receive 20+ games, anything less is a complete (frank)in' joke and Thronton and The Bruins get off WAAAAAY too easy.
If this decision is botched, the the wrong message is sent to the players and the fans, and leaves the door wide for this type of crap to continue. |

Ya know I can't help but think this whole Rogers Bell media thing with MLSE is not over and done with. I just can't picture these two giants sharing MLSE. Now that Rogers has all the hockey, just can't see how Bell can sit idly by. As with most complicated transactions that occured when these two enemies got into bed with each other, i'm sure there was some form of poison pill installed. Meaning, one could force the other into selling/buying the other party out.
Could MLSE be torn apart, seperating the Leafs from the other aspects of the buisness?? |
