Not that it matters, cause its still one of the dirtiest things in hockey i've ever seen......... but....

Does Neal knee him cause he just happens to be there, or cause its Brad Marchand?

- faceto27

both. he looks right at him before he does it. and he's gliding, not at full speed. Easily could have turned. If that's Bergeron he avoids him guaranteed.

Not at all. The guys can turn and stop on a dime.
It was 100% intentional.

Yea, I forget how fast these guys can react to poop.

I tend to agree. And because I feel he did it cause it was Marchand, then its a slam dunk case for saying, he did it deliberately.

Therefore, as bad as Thornton's punching of Orpik was, I think Neal's is a grossly dirty play.

Thats its Marchand, is really irrelevant.

Neal should have gotten over 10 games.

Admitting that there's a good chance Neal's hit was intentional... I still think Thornton's is worse.

Neal's is a spur-of the moment thing. Thorton spent 10 minutes fuming about the hit, and then went after the guy when he got the chance. Took him to the ice... then punched him twice while he was down with no way to defend himself.

- Feeling Glucky?

You've got a good point. But imagine Orpik walks away unharmed and Marchand gets taken way on a stretcher. Do you feel the same way?

I was kinda surprised it was only 5 also. Likely the fact Marchand wasn't hurt on the play had a lot to do with it. If he's concussed, it's probably 10 games, but he played against the Leafs...

Thornton's is a violation of the "code" also, to a terrible degree. and Orpik is hurt. A fighter doing something that fighters absolutely can not be allowed to do. I can see them really nailing him as this is something they want to say is absolutely not tolerated.

Shanaban as is his tendenacy has dropped the ball.

10 games for Neal........ and you need to give Bertuzzi treatment to Thornton.

That is what he should have done if he had a set.

Something very very bad is going to happen in the NHL one day, and judging by the way things are going, its going to be sooner rather than later.

Someone is going to get killed.

Sad to say it, but its the course that this train known as the NHL express is on.

If Orpik walks away unharmed... I think the US army looks at his helmet technology for their tanks.

But the NHL probably would have punished Neal more if he had injured Marchand.

Personally, I think regardless of injuries, what Thornton did was worse. Just because he had time to cool off, and instead went after the guy.

North of 10 games, for Thornton too for sure. But Bertuzzi? He took his shift with the plan that he would seek out Steve Moore and jump the little guy and ended up intentionally slamming his face into the ice from behind.

Thornton, although I agree he was seeking vengeance for the hit on Eriksson did this during a scrum that resulted from his teammate intentionally getting kneed in the head. It was more of a 'in the heat of battle' thing and I don't believe he intended to slam Orpik's head into the ice.

Yup, what Neal has demonstrated is a lack of quick thought. He sees a guy that he doesn't like down in a vulnerable position, and his instinct is to hurt him rather than avoid him. It's not so much a conscious action, just a reflex one. Which makes it worse IMO
