First time I saw it (not in slo mo), looked like his arms were up. Watched again just now I see he gets Louis' chest. Fair enough. But perhaps Thornton was seeking out the biggest player on the ice after Neal purposely kneed Marchand in the head?
- 1979AD

Nope, he was going after the guy who he thinks gave a dirty hit. If he was going after the biggest guy, he would have dropped the gloves. You saw how enraged he was after the hit right?

It's just that at regular speed the whole thing happens in a couple of seconds.

I don't know. It's not a lot of time to think "oh hey, that guy's down, oh look, it's marchand, I should go over there and give him a knee to the head"... and then do it.

Makes more sense if it was planned out... in which case Crosby would need to get looked at as well.

Nah, he saw an opportunity and took it.

like I said, I laughed. I hate Marchand enough to find that funny, and I don't play against him. No doubt in my mind at all that it was intentional. And he definitely looks right at him before he clocks him. He sees who it is and makes sure he knees him in the face.

Makes sense. When I'm skating to the net and a rebound pops out in front I have no time to think 'hey there's a rebound in front of the net, if I take a couple strides that way i could probably jam that home'. Just not enough time to think it, then do it dammit!

By that logic, dudes who drink that 20% Malibu fruity rum are less wussy than those who drink beer.

ya Neal went off so he went for Orpik cause Eriksson was hurt on the play so he still wanted to fight him.

I'm all for fighting in hockey, but hate the fights after a guy makes a huge clean hit. (frank)ing stupid.

unless it's the guy who got rocked, no reason to fight there. And they call instigator like once out of 10 of those... if that. Why have the rule at all?

Agreed. I can't seem to figure out when/why the instigator is ever called.

Fair point.

I still say you're wrong about Orpik's head, though.

You're right. I hate that all the way back to the clean hit on Naslund that led to the Bertuzzi/Moore incident. Players need to start letting clean hits go - even on star players. The best revenge is a clean hit on their star player

I still think people should be more outraged at James Neal for what he did than Thornton for what he did though.

so what's everybody's predictions for Thornton suspension?

Personally I think anything less than 25 games is a joke.

so it will probably be 10

Guys...

New pre-requisite to hang in the EE thread:

You now must only drink alcohol 40% and above. Beer drinkers are hereby pussies now.

Not that it matters, cause its still one of the dirtiest things in hockey i've ever seen......... but....

Does Neal knee him cause he just happens to be there, or cause its Brad Marchand?

You guys really think I would do that? Even to stee? I haven't touched a post there. Ask Doz or Lou to check if you are that skeptical.

Admitting that there's a good chance Neal's hit was intentional... I still think Thornton's is worse.

Neal's is a spur-of the moment thing. Thorton spent 10 minutes fuming about the hit, and then went after the guy when he got the chance. Took him to the ice... then punched him twice while he was down with no way to defend himself.
