If I'm Edmonton and Philly wants a king's ransom for Couturier, I'd be asking about Laughton. He was a high energy player during his trial in Philly. Often his enthusiasm looked unmatched on the team. He's having a hell of a season in juniors. If Philly has their centers lined up for awhile, a swap of prospects including Laughton might help both franchises. I have a feeling the fans up there would really like what he brings to the table.

please remember that what YOU as fans on hockeybuzz "want" or "don't want" doesn't mean shat. and let's not forget holmgren loves getting poop he doesn't need like old aging defensemen that suck at defense or a declining old bought out forward on an already-stacked offensive team.
- rangerdanger94

I agree 100% about Holmgrens tendencies. Even if he did want to trade couturier and coburn dont you think he would be smart enough to get a defenseman or somebody better than gagner? He could probably find someone willing to pay a much higher price.

That would be a smart move. Not saying I want to get rid of him but the price is less so if im Edmonton id move for him

what is going on with l.schenn? how's mezaros playing?
- deks1

Mezaros does not look like he is worth his 4 million cap hit and hasnt returned to his 2010 self. He is playing better but not much better. At best hes a 6th defenseman.

Luke Schenn is a curious case. Im not sure whats going on with him. Last season he was spectacular and this season he sucks. Hes inconsistent but young. Im not sure im ready to get rid of him yet. Unless for a good price or the right deal.

And it could be done with all or mostly prospects for both teams. Might give them each helpful pieces for the next season.

L Schenn is down right now. I think part of it is that there are 2 shutdown dmen ahead of him on the depth chart, so he doesn't get the ice time he needs to succeed. He does best with a lot of time, which is why he was amazing at the end of last season when he was playing 25-28 minute games. Mez is playing pretty well overall. He's looked capable in the offensive zone and has had a couple nice plays. In the Dzone I would say so much. He's gotten outworked a few times which has led to bad D breakdowns.

Maybe, but we already have a surprising number of young Dmen with Gustafsson, LSchenn, Morin, Hagg, Ghost, Alt, Lauridsen, and Vasiliev in the organization.

In reality, I don't understand why Philly is not doing better. Yes, your D could be better but I don't think a major shake up is needed.

weird. I was crucified in the summer for saying that Meszaros would be no more than a 3rd pairing guy

He was more than that once. Dont get me wrong in 2010 he was great. But there is no way that after his injuries and given his current level of play he is anymore than a third pairing guy. Not sure who said that...

In this person's defense all hockey fans get ideas in their heads over the summer about players and how they will do. I was crucified for saying Dubnyk wasnt #1 starter material yet. Not defending him though. He was obviously wrong.

Thankfully at least Mes is playing better.

Oh, I'm definitely one to throw out outlandish statements about the team I cheer for from time to time.

Just find it hilarious that I was ridiculed for saying Mes'd be a bottom pairing guy and labelled as someone who never watches hockey(albeit that has been fairly true this season with edmonton's disappointing record)

hey all,

manager of a yahoo league. cost 30 dollars.

have a poop owner who I had to boot because he was disrespectful to everyone. he puts me in a bad spot because he has not paid and his team is nearly 50 games under .500

however, with a good manager there is still time to get back in to it. he has a good team if active. the league will cost 40 but I will give back 10$ at end of the year because the late fee charges you but it is not you fault that happened. If you agree and would like to join please email me at

- Seabrook7[email protected]

please, I really need some takers as it would be well appreciated. who is up for the challenge in bringing this team back from the dead?

thanks

I didn't necessarily mean defense, but after looking down their prospect lists, that would almost have to be where you'd go. Was kind of hoping there was a LW out there.

I'm super psyched about Ghost's accolades this year, and Morin and Haag could be legit NHLers in a couple of seasons, but you never know who will pan out. No such thing as too many defensive prospects.

In two years Kimmo will be gone and Streit will be a third pairing guy. Coburn and Grossmann will still be in their prime, but right around 30. Schenn has talent, but is still a question mark. Homer will probably try to throw money at someone, but yeah even with the crop you have listed, I'd like all the options I can have. Besides, lord knows people will always pay for defensive talent if you've got a log jam.

we've struggled ever since Kimmo started showing his age, this team needed to work on getting a successor for him & they haven't done it, a Dailey, Howe, Desjardins, or Timmonen, a true number 1

I'm terrified Holmgren will try to top Toronto with a bid of

"ONE GAJILLION DOLLARS!"

for Phaneuf because of this. Not that I wouldn't want Neon Dion. I just don't like him at the tune of one gajillion dollars.

Ya, but I think our prospect pool might be a bit more unbalanced if we traded Laughton for a D prospect. I don't really see Philly and Edmonton as compatible trade partners unless Hall is coming our way, which seems unlikely.

One gajilion would be a bit hefty. I could live with 7 to 7.5 million, though. It'd be heavy but we should be getting a good amount of space this offseason.

Unlikely? I'd think non existent.

Couts is 21 as of this past weekend. Giroux is mid 20s. Lecavalier is yours for 4 more years. I think you can let the center go. Plus remember Cousins could step into one of those roles in a couple of years. He'll probably take the Couturier path of a year or two on the checking line before he's bumped up.

7 or 7.5 wouldn't bother me, but it likely won't bother the Leafs either. He stays home for that amount me thinks.

Won't stop Homer. I'm scared of that offer or worse. He sees the cap going up and the money coming off of the books and he's already spending it in his brain.
