Yes I read this in the Oilers thread a few times. Apparently, so did RNH, Eberle and Dubnyk.

Love to see the quote. I seriously doubt you can find it. The only guy we've ever said deserved even consideration at all is Hall.

He plays a 200ft game though and a more important position. He could very well turn out to be a Bergeron type of player.
- golfingsince

Here's the double-standard I hate. Whenever discussing Yakupov and his value, it's ALL about what he's proven (or hasn't proven, in this case), but whenever a guy like Coots is brought up in comparison to Hall, all anyone seems to mention is that he's got Bergeron-level potential.

It was in an Oilers thread back in September, pretty sure Cloutier was still blogging but it was in the thread not the blog. It wasn't everybody, but there were a few. Hugefemale dog was the only one who eventually suggested even Hall was unlikely to make it.

Show me proof that we have said that Dubnyk has strong consideration for team Canada please. A lot of people think hall should make it.

But please, show me proof that we have said that Dubnyk should be on team canada

- BoringBob69

There was actually one guy that insisted he should be in consideration, and- to be fair- I did consider the thought (after last season's numbers), but I promptly dismissed the thoughts after his start to this season.

We have our fair share of unrealistic tools like every other fanbase. Maybe just base statements on what the rational ones say. and Hall should get consideration.

Do you think Yak has more potential to put up Ovie type numbers or bolt to the KHL?

Sadly, he still is. As much as I think he ought to be there with the numbers he's put up and being one of the best Canadian wingers in the game (behind Perry, Nash, and couple others), the selection committee seems to value two-way play and experience quite a lot (which is fair in such a tournament).

I think Yak will put up Yak-like numbers. He's lived and played in NA for a number of years already and as a Tatar doesn't even consider himself truly Russian. I don't think KHL bolting is a worry at all.

Four Canadian players in the past two seasons have played at over a PPG pace. Crosby, Stamkos, Getzlaf. Care to guess who the other is?

Neither. Kessel-like numbers are likely his high-end, but I'd place him as a fairly safe bet to both stay in the league and consistently score 30+ goals. He wants to play here in the best league in the world. Want proof? He moved his family here for (frank)'s sake! That's more proof than anyone suggesting he'll bolt could give you.

He's top-10 in scoring over the past 3 seasons, as well!

I think he seems set in north america. Played in Sarnia leading up to the draft so that has to count for something.

Or at least form the basis of your CURRENT argument on what the person you're CURRENTLY arguing against says.

on HNIC last night they were discussing the "question" of whether Subban should make the Olympic team, and someone seriously brought up Giordano as a possibility so that wouldn't surprise me too much

ugh, the whole HNIC panel was so dumb last night it made me want RSN to just take it over on the spot

Except that last season he was under a PPG. Not by much mind you.

and this year, St.Louis is not.

The devil is in the details.

I guess they should be interested in Couturier .....the kid just had his 21 rst birthday yesterday.....he really has the skill set to be a star ...... An all around , "Bergeron" type of player.....that's not an animal that the oilers have......but even as a big fan , I can see some young Edmonton talent that could entice the Flyers.....nothing Holmgren does shocks me anymore......so even if I take this rumor with a grain of salt.....it's intriguing.

Couturier will likely tap out around 20-25 goals and 30 assists. Not this year, but soon. I can see that being an average for him for a decent period of time. Maybe one or two years above that. Maybe. However, yeah he's got that defensive gumption to him. Much like how Bergeron plays, or what Richards provided them when he was a Flyer.

Hey Max Bone, I think that is not true. Plenty of people have defended the potential of Yakupov AND questioned just how much Couturier is worth
